Re: System Colonization .... Can we PLEASE name the system and stations?

Today I learned of a certain content creator that at least got a warning on their account for naming a station after a certain orifice. Got very salty on reddit, too. So it's not like they do nothing, but hey; if it was up to me, they could be much harsher.

Interesting. I bet I can guess which content creator it was as well.

I really enjoy reading ED forums. Some not so much, but some are great discussions, some good arguments (to me is a positive thing), and some hilarious stuff, like those last two response! 😄

Thank you Angry Aunt, I read the link you provided, and that is super cool, thoughtful, and intelligent, I feel a bit enlightened now knowing the meaning behind Shinrarta Dezhra. (y)

Personally, I think they should allow naming of procedurally named systems only. Individual bodies in the system may be a bit much.
As for stupidly named systems, they can set rules and allow reporting for ones that slip through the crack. And really, considering all of the stupidly named cities and towns in the world, it'd be weird if there weren't a few in the 34th century.

Alternatively, they could add a view that shows original names instead of player made names for those who don't want to see them. They would still come up in searches, and duplicates wouldn't be allowed.

Or any ingame name generating system. I have seen a couple different types.
  • But only for systems with a minimum of 10 completed facilities.
  • AND maybe 5,000 ARX

Just to ensure name changes only happen to systems cmdrs care about.
Yeah, some prerequisite besides plopping an outpost down. If nothing else, I'm pretty sure system names have to be unique and it'd be a pain to find that the name you wanted got taken by some backwater bridge.

I'd even be fine with it being an automatic thing when you hit 10 facilities for a "something something sector bunchofnumbers" system to be assigned a syllable-mashup name that can't be changed using the same system the stellar forge did. I mean, it's not like it's going to generate anything unfortunate, right?

So, 4 or so years ago, with the dream that being able to colonize systems would one day become a thing, i did a bit of roleplay and made a "prospectus" for the development of a system a few thousand LY outside the bubble.

I gave each planet and the system a name.... i guess some people might not like the names, they might say seeing them would ruin their immersion, but you know, i don't care about those people, i would love to name my planets and systems.

For anyone's perusal and to express their outrage over the names i gave the planets.

Wow, mm hm, the noob. lol Got a nice kick out of the responses. 😆 Ya it was Agony_Aunt I was trying to thank. Still chuckling a bit about Angry Aunts and Agony Ants. Sorry for mixing your names up.

I liked your video Agony_Aunt, cute. The music reminded me of M.A.R.S. Here's some off topic stuff from the noob.

I think renaming systems would ruin immersion as the whole 1to1 Milky Way is a big draw of the game. Realism and such.
However giving systems a nickname? Heck yeah!
1) most of the star names in the game aren't real. Not just the procedural, but the non-procedural names as well.
2) So in universe, they were almost definitely renamed or named by their colonists.

I see no reason why being able to rename non well established stars would be immersion breaking. It'd be much more realistic for the colonists to rename it after they establish a home as many many other system inhabitants seem to have done.

Immersion states that if humanity colonized systems they would do it based on their social background, and you'd end up with:

Hebron
Maui Covenant
MadreDeDios
Parvati
Hyperion
Qom-Ryadth

Then we would need someone with an ego the size of a galaxy to save us from all the dead returning to life through a giant deus ex machina.

Sorry Peter F. Hamilton. Love you books, hate the ending.
