Even tho I prefer Mara for a rodent slot, Agouti would be one of the more acceptable compromises
Id be very happy with an agouti.
Its a small, kinda unassuming critter for tropical houses, something we have waayy to little of imo.
Really would like the red footed tortoise for pretty much the same reason
Uh yes! I tend to forget about agoutis because there are so many other important South American animals missing but wouldn't be mad if we got agoutis instead of Patagonian mara for example. Still I'm hoping for coati and mara but coati and agouti would be also cool and acceptable.
I’m currently working on a tropical house for tropical Asia/ South America, and I really am noticing the lack of animals for mixed habitats so it would be greatly appreciated to get more small critters. My mixed gibbon/ siamang/ ASCO habitat could use another terrestrial member that isn’t to aggressive. And a capuchin/ NWM habitat with Capybaras and another animal would be great.
Genuinely still one of my biggest issues with PZ, even after we are getting the saki.
What do we not have for tropical houses?
- A bunch of monkeys
- Waterfowl
- Other birds (storks, ground fowl, etc)
- Rodents like the agouti
- Reptiles like the river turtle
- More exhibit animals
- Fish
Yeah exactly.
Im currently building a small SA tropical hall in my aquarium and the options for animals (that make sense in my mind) basicly come down to caimans, capuchin and armadillo as a stand in.
I dont think were lacking big animals for tropical houses, as for that we basicly have everything you could want. What is missing are appropriate animal small scale tropical houses or satelite exhibits next to the jaguars, orangs, pygmy hippos and stuff
It will and it won’t if that makes sense? On one hand Flamingos aren’t unknown to exits in indoor habitats, so they can be used for that. On the other, they are more frequently Outdoors animals so they do look a bit odd indoors.
I’ll admit though, if we are getting the American Flamingo I have thought about making a super large indoor “Rainforest” which covers South America into Africa. Then I would probably use both flamingos, as I don’t have any birds otherwise.
Still waiting on the last couple slots though, still really hoping for a certain tropical duck.

Instead of Coati would be criminal, but later down the line something like Elephant Seal wouldn't be the end of the world
Yeah, Ocelot and agouti or even coati and agouti would be cool, too - not quite my dream (Mara and ocelot) though.
I also wouldn't be too upset with that.
I would go for a Bighorn sheep statue.
Rhea would be cool because you'd be able to use it as a stand in for an ostrich as well probably. Saki would be good too, do we have other monkey statues?
Saki, seems like the most usefull and easiest to incorporate in a zoo
I think we would get a coati, mara or ocelot statue. Or maybe an ungulate statue (pudu, whitetailed deer, elk, brocket,...) if they go for another ungulate?
