New ship: Gutamaya Corsair

as I expected...
there is zero reason to "lightweight" the corsair other than FSD jump range.
the collosal engine size means it never suffers losing top speed due to excessive weight.

You can pack on weight and still got fast. Its not the fact its got a decent top speed that is scary about it... its the fact it can go that speed WHILST fully packed with the heaviest gear.

Also hav some corsair screenshots (sorry have not bought a paintjob cause none of the current corsair paints are currently appealing enough)

Oh boy, I fought a commander flying one with plasmas (not sure how many he had, but I did not notice he fired anything else at me) and got badly wrecked. I usually lose VS plasma FdL's, but he was something else.
Never expected my shield to go down so quickly...maybe he had Premium ammo, since it was at the CG (and maybe I should have synthetize some before dropping to my wingman's wake to help him).
I assume a class 7 distro helps using bigger/more plasma than on a FdL (and the Python2's class 6 distro cannot handle 4x C3 + 2x C2).

I did greater damage to his shield compared to what I am used against FdL's, but could not get it down, he kept popping cells (if I had a cascade rail, that might have been a different story).

Is there a new meta brewing, maybe?

I did, like 8 pages ago, when mentioned about possiblity of 6 experimentals... But its ok, I know that many around dont bother to read what I say!

But yes, I already tried 6x mod plasma bulid, and killed the very first cmdr with those, in Corsair. It was quite tough to get it work with SCB's but luckly my methods never failed me and managed to get it work at 99,9% power.


But my point was... yep, with 6x mod plasma, I image I could alpha cyclops with no problems, well as gib basilisk at fewer hearts, and maybe one shot those glaives. I used bulids with 4 and 5 mod plasma chargers, during thargoid invasion, and those was my main AX bulids.

Why we didnt had Corsair during thargoid war? It would made it way easier than it was... Anyways, the days of shardconda are over... every cmdr and thier dog, will be using Corsair soon as they can get it, for thier AX activites.

SRB + Premium + TC = Plasma big dmg.

I put together an all PA build (3 large SRB, 3 medium efficient, all thermal conduit) and it's just nuts. Absolute uncultured thug of a ship that you fight to get pointing where you want it, but it is worth it when you destroy a Viper mk3 at 86% hull without sub-targeting modules. Basically like flying a giant plasma shotgun and something is hitting some critical module somewhere when you pull the trigger.

Great at interdictions and a really nice stable platform for fixed weapons. I like it, but with how it moves and the heat management it's probably going to be a marmite ship.

The pitch is a bit odd and it's not great in SCM, so much so have to roll and yaw as that's faster (I am hoping an experimental can help drag drives) - other than that it's an interesting ship. I am sure it's great for bullying thargoids and is stable, but the handling is akin to a large ship, definately not a medium.

It's marketed as a multipurpose ship, but it really sounds like a full-on combat ship.

Huge power plant and power distributor that can run almost any combination of weapons you want, a big amount of hardpoints for a ship of its size, thrusters that will make it fast no matter how heavy it is... It sounds like it has been designed to be a heavy-duty (yet still quite agile) combat ship.

On the other hand, thanks to its big amount of optional module slots it's admittedly a lot more suitable for multipurpose than the Python Mk II.

The Scout goes POOF.
The Basilisk's heart goes BYEBYE while you run away from its retaliation lightning (my Shardconda is quite struggling against this...).

And A LOT of hull, unlike my Shard Python, which does not go as fast anyway.

I have done that, not for AX, but for PVE.

But 6 Modshards do not work well without masses of heatsinks in a well shielded build, so I changed 2 of them for 2 C3 TV Beams. The aim is to fire 2 salvos without overheating and without using a heatsink. I have to try, how to reach this. I think I will try class 6 Thrusters and an amoured PP.

4 Modshards need about 15 salvos to destroy a Deadly Pirate Anaconda/Corvette, so it is effective enough.

The 8500 m Godshard sits in the lower C2. In this, it works perfect as a „sniper“ because you can aim very precisely with the single dot.

Elite has this weird thing with ship balancing where civilian multi-purpose ships (Python I, Kraits, Corsair) have large power plant and distro that can keep any weapons loadout fed, but dedicated combat ships (FDL, Mamba, PII, Alliance C-ships and federal brickships) have small power systems that struggle with the hardpoints they have. You'd expect the opposite where combat ships go all out on their power systems but the civilian ones need to consider carefully which weapons they can fit. Full SRB PA Krait MKII shouldn't be a thing and Chief should be able to utilize Low Emissions reactor while powering 2 medium and 2 small Gauss cannons.

I mean, I get that we're all rolling in credits but, for perspective, this is supposed to be a replacement for the iClipper... which cost Cr22m. :oops:
Due to the sizes of the modules, it's not cheap to equip either.
You're probably looking at quarter of a billion credits to put a decent one in the sky.

Just equipped mine with a combination of A & D rated core modules, along with some 7A DD5s, and no internal modules at all (not really sure what I plan to fit yet), took it out for a rip and it seemed alright.
I did notice that, upon swapping ships again, my Mandalay felt noticeably more agile than the Corsair.

The Corsair definitely seems to be a medium ship that thinks it's a big ship, in terms of cost, equipment, capability and handling.

The more I read about stuff like this the more I'm convinced that Frontier outsourced every single aspect of the design and parameters to a different team, working at a different company, based in a different country, speaking a different language, and who are not aware of what Elite Dangerous actually is.

And I'm only half joking.

This. It's an overgrown Imperial Courier, with very similar flight model; only fast in a straight line, non-existent yaw, very slow pitch rate and heavily reliant on roll for positioning. It at least doesn't suffer the imperial curse of poor control-moment thruster strength. Thankfully it pulls up and goes where pointed.

But it's sluggish in anything other than a straight line and the fixation on hardpoints and powerplant/ distro is really only half the story, imho. Is it good? Sure. It should be. All Elite Dangerous ships should have value and that many still don't and haven't been corrected by Frontier is a bit of a stain imho.

I like it, I think? Need more time in the saddle but it's winning me over, slowly. It's definately an imperial ship with the imperial ship quirks for handling, thermal management and cost, which is excessive.

It might not be a good metric but it is to my mind the important one when comparing ships though of course makes recommendations less certain.
