What's your "Eleanor"?

i was going to say a adder but realised its the wrong post ,lol, that for the zoo game.otherwise a vette asp and conda .the main ships i use being serious, the only three i realy use.as a favorite asp.love that ship.

I had done PvE combat for quite some time with a Krait Mk II, and I heard from various sources how awesome of a combat ship the Alliance Chieftain is. Thus, I purchased one and equipped and engineered it to be a full-fledged badass combat ship.

However, it turns out that its canopy is made of tissue paper and it breaks if you so much as breathe towards it. I literally couldn't do much PvE combat because the canopy was constantly breaking.

I sold the ship and went back to the Krait Mk II.

The Challenger, always wanted to do something with it, could never figure out what...

With the Keelback I have it set up for ground attack missions, all missiles, heavy shielding and missile defence with a bunch of SRVs.

because the canopy was constantly breaking
This prompts me to wonder which ships of mine have had the most canopy failures. I can't seem to find "canopy" events in my journal files though so maybe it's not recorded (or at least not with that word in the event text).

My sister is called Eleanor....I like the idea of having a sibling, but it never seems to work out;- something always goes wrong 😂

For me it's the Vulture. Objectively a brilliant small combat ship, but to me always feels too big, too heavy and leaving me wondering why I'm not in one of my lightweight FdLs...
Blasphemy!

I'm the opposite, it's a struggle to get the most out of my Vulture's - they are tough to outfit - but I love em!
But I'm not a fan of the FDL. I can't quite figure out why...it just always 'feels' somehow wrong.

Don't know really, it's weird. The iEagle, Viper mk3, Cobra mk3, Viper mk4, DBX, iCourier and even the Sidewinder are all good in combat for me. I just can't a way of putting together a Vulture that I like flying.

Everybody does have at least one ship like that it seems.

There are some ships I have bought then sold never to buy again.
There are some I have never considered buying.
There are a few I bought for various reasons that I have effectively never used.
And there are some I use intermittently.

But none of them are really Eleanor, the one you always want but it never works out.

The Viper III almost qualifies as it was the ship I really thought I wanted when I was in my free Sidewinder, but I sold it and went back to the Sidewinder almost immediately and have never seriously considered it again, so not Eleanor.

She initially disappointed me as well but she works best if you use FA off, set the keybind to hold rather than toggle... Takes a bit of getting use to, but it makes the ship much better in combat. I still prefer others, but, using FA off and a single size 2 rail in the bottom slot is making me a better pilot.
Yeah I might have been a little hasty, I just tried 3x APA's and 3x Burst Lasers and it was much better. Probably just a matter of getting used to the flight profile, and not expecting it too fly like a PM2.
Think it could make a very versatile PP/mission runner, looking elsewhere on these forums has given me some inspiration for some useful builds!

I'm going to commit to blasphemy and say its Cobra MKIII for me. I love the ship: it's fast, nimble, iconic. I don't even mind the non-centered cockpit with limited view to the sides.

But it never seems to make to A grade, always B-s with some C-s thrown in. It has only two utility slots (but there are two extra placements for utilities on the hull if you look close!), its shield and hull are fragile, hardpoints limited and its not quite nimble enough to avoid taking fire all the time. And while it looks good from most angles, it doesn't look great from the side--just a weird blunt triangle with straight vertical line at the tail end.

Luckily, the MKV I just got fixes all these issues and is the perfect small space rogue ship without being too OP. Not as fast as Courier/Viper III/Eagle; not as good shields or heavy-hitting hardpoints as Vulture; not as much of a hull tank like Viper IV; not as much jumprange as DBX; not as cold as DBS or Dolphin. But good enough, a balanced mix without any glaring fatal flaws.

All that said, here's one of my favourite scenes in the game involving Cobra III:

AspX. It's been sitting under a tarp with all it's modules swapped out for E's, ready to sell.

I even took it off the battery trickle charger last week. I'm just not convinced she needs to go, so I consider it a little cash in a shoe box for some credits in a crunch.

There was no indecision with my Type-6. Didn't own it long, still had temporary plates on it! ;)

Mine was definitely my Vulture. I popped that canopy almost every fight!

Genuinely, I don't dare touch my Vulture build in case I screw something up.

I Had all the problems with it when I first built it;- power problems, heat problems, weapon choice, what modules to fit and constant broken canopies.
A few years ago FDev gave away a free Vulture as a reward for a treasure-hunt and I swapped all my modules across, had a couple of new ideas and it all just... worked.
IIRC, it has a decent jump range, has a little bit of cargo space and makes a nice ship for "black box" missions.

I honestly wonder if FDev tweaked some of the hidden damage stat's for the giveaway Vulture because it just feels a bit more solid and reliable than my original one did.

I will say Asp Scout, instead, because I own a couple, and I really want to love it, but it always falls flat, no matter what.
The only thing I really do with it is to fly it in Open, hoping that whoever sees me will tell one day: "Once I saw someone flying an Asp Scout! I swear!"

Problem is, the Asp Scout that we have is not what it should have been.

I mean, unless I'm mistaken, isn't the AspS more expensive than a CM5?

Here's how to "fix" the AspS, in a nutshell;-
1) Lop off those extra wing-things that just make it a bigger target.
2) Lop bits off until it fits on a small pad.
3) give it internals and hardpoints comparable to the Cobra Mk4.
4) Travel back in time to around 2018 and put it into the game so people can enjoy it for a while before the CM5 arrives and renders it hopelessly obsolete (again).

This prompts me to wonder which ships of mine have had the most canopy failures. I can't seem to find "canopy" events in my journal files though so maybe it's not recorded (or at least not with that word in the event text).
That would be why I sold my Asp Explorer. :(

I still have my Adder. Seymour survives. :)

I have three DBX's ("Lydia", "Aela" and "Jenassa" - can you spot the Skyrim nerd?) that aren't going anywhere.
The rest of my small ships are more worried though.

On a vaguely related topic, after the meet-up, I parked my starter Sidey (the "Cathy D") on somebody's FC and, last time I checked, it was in Colonia so I guess she's getting to see the galaxy, which is nice.
