Distant Worlds 3 - Introducing the Orion Colony Initiative (OCI)

When were all those regions between Witchead and Orion permit-locked off? I'm pretty certain back in the earlier days of the game I was able to go from Witchead directly to Orion and on to Barnards loop in my old unengineered Asp pre-Horizons. This was one of the few local exploration trips that I did that was quick and easy to do in one single session.

Also, I can't believe how quickly this Shoulder of Orion project was completed. I only heard about it a couple of weeks ago, when I decided to come back to the game after a year away again. And all I've been doing was first mucking about having to command line format a new SSD to upgrade my 7 yr old gaming rig, then buying some of the new ships and materals gathering to engineer them, expecting to join in with the Orion project later, only to read here on the forum that it all mostly seems done now.

So whats the Discord channel to get onto if I want to bring in a fleet carrer and haulage ships to help out building further stations in the vicinity of Orion with this continued colonisation project?

And with all those permit locked systems right next to everyones' hard work, it really does look to me like a bit of a bait and trap thing going on here, I expect Thargoids to suddenly appear, but we'll wait and see what happens. Possibly nothing will happen, but explorer ships are very vulnerable things.

They were locked fairly early on, in 2016. May, ED 2.1 The Engineers update. So sure, you could have easily gone exploring there before Horizons.
As for the Discord, I believe you'll want to join DW3's Discord server, FleetComm.

Explorer ships aren't vulnerable, you can easily make some with pretty good shields while barely losing any jump range. Especially with today's top explorer ships. If somebody is offering you outdated advice, suggesting a cardboard build, just say no to minmaxing your jump range. Even the developers tell you this, via Felicity Farseer.

If it's Thargoids hiding out in the permit-locked systems about to spring out to attack people's explorer ships it's not shields that will protect the ships. Pretty certain you need a ship that is fast to get away, or if engaging in combat, a heavy weighted down hull tank. I like my explorer ships to be lightweight with only basic 1 or 200 MJ sheilds only to stop landing damage, but I don't skimp on the engine as I like them to be as fast as possible without too much weight. So I still go with D class but engineer up.

Hello CMDRs,

A thousand thanks for this incredibly inspiring project. I wanted to inform you that, as part of our internal Trailblazer operation, Nova Lux Galactica — with the support of DSN — has brought Medicorp into the OASIS program.

CMDR Medicorp has claimed the system 2MASS J05364928+0958199, and we’ve begun construction of a Coriolis station there. Our goal is to establish :
  • medical facilities,
  • scientific research stations,
  • agricultural farms

This will allow us to provide aid, supply medicines to the market, respond to potential epidemics, and fight famines in the area. We will also be offering Search and Rescue (SAR) operations in the region.
Medicorp does not seek system control (we do not engage in the BGS), but instead aims to maintain a wide network of contacts across systems to provide our services and welcome pilots in need.

It is a great honor — and a great pleasure — to establish a foothold in this part of the galaxy thanks to you and your project. Many thanks as well to the DSN and the brave rescue pilots who are helping us build these structures.

More information about the operation is available on our website (French/English) : https://medicorp.wing-atlantis.fr/en/nova-lux-galactica-2/
