Powerplay (+5%/-35%) multipliers and UI -> put CPs instead!

rant/

With the introduction of the "flat multipliers" (+5% for offensive / -35% for defensive) (why flat? terrible feature imho), considering that merits have to be /4 for some activities /6 for others... keeping track of how many CPs a pledged player is effectively contributing to the specific system is now a mess.

At least make it clear in the UI when merits are gained what is the amount of CPs that each action is currently generating... we are at a point where personal merits are worthless (except may be for the leaderboard), all that the most of core powerplayers care is the CPs and we want to know WHAT IS THE EXACT AMOUNT OF CPs, not having to calculate them separately or wait for system refresh on the GalMap.

Thanks.

I don't like the dual lines of text every merit I earned in the info panel, it pushes out info that I was trying to read when the merit message pops up. I can do without the whys and how comes every time I earn a merit. Feels like someone is trying to hold my hand, aaand- Don't touch! lol

I'm soory i'm a bit of a noob, what is CP's? Control points?

So agreed, i think. 🤔

I agree the UI wording is annoying (I don't think a negative "muliplier" and words like that is intuitive, I prefer simple terms like "reduction" and "bonus") and that the minus sign is on one line and the number is on another also triggers me e.g.
MERITS ACQUIRED
Earned 553 merits for Nakato Kaine with -
35% reinforcement applied

instead of something on one line like
MERITS ACQUIRED
Earned 553 merits for Nakato Kaine with
-35% reinforcement reduction
and
MERITS ACQUIRED
Earned 500 merits for Nakato Kaine with
+5% acquiring bonus

Also, similarly for the system map/galaxy map activities summary
LOCAL ACTIVITIES

Defensive activity: -35% reduction of Merits rewarded
Contribute to your Power's Control Score by completing the
following activities related to this system:
  • Hand in Cartography Data ...

But I don't think we need to see control points, that's the old pp 1.0 and would just add to the confusion IMO

Aye, but more over is not helpful at all... CP = control points :)

Old PP1 merits were 1:1 when earned so there was no need to make calculations, the "stored" amount of merits to redeem was on the left panel / transactions (for those merits which were not instantly earned).

PP2 has, for the most part, instant merits (which is good) and only data/powerplay items can be stored.

The UI must be simplified and the "multipliers" have to be removed as redundant and already displayed in the system panel.

Given that the merits earned are not equal to the control points, all that we need is to have the right panel something like:

Big message: 20 MERITS EARNED (as it is now)

And: 20 Merits / 4 Command Points for [Power] earned on the right scrolling screen.

So that you know exactly what it is the amount of CPs earned by killing a ship, selling a cargo of rares or redeeming explo data, etc etc

Thanks.
I've stopped doing PP altogether now, the -35% for solo/small group folks like myself who contribute by defending is a huge disincentive.
I'm getting penalised for doing what i used to find fun, fighting fires, repelling borders.

I will do the occasional merit missions for fun but that's all.

Or just flash the Command Points after the merit message. Also, FD should create a log entry for the number.

Sure, i like both of the control point notification and Rubbernuke's suggestion for both notifications. CP's would be a a neat notification because you could see the progress made for the power, and a flash notification of merits, a log entry is good also.

And i think that's the most cordial and controlled rant i've ever read. Constructive and logical, you can rant away anytime you want. Gees I wish i had that much control when i rant.

I agree. Personal merits don't matter much, but control points are everything and we shouldn't do guesswork to have a vague idea about how much our actions actually contribute.

It seems that control points earned is unchanged, at least in Exploited systems—I made as much progress over the weekend as I did during the previous cycle in a backwater almost-no-traffic system. It's just that the personal merits have the buff/debuff applied. Which is reasonable—I still advanced some 6 ranks over ~10 hours playtime or so without doing the "meta" activities even with the debuff, which is still fast enough "leveling". I guess the aim of this merit change is not to punish the core players doing actual useful work, but try to control meta farming of merits for chasing ranks (and unlocking the modules) as fast as possible.

To be fair, your contributions still have the same effect on the map it just rewards you less. Which is fine if you're already level 100 since more merits just means your care package screen gets more and more consumed by cthulu.
