The New Content Drought

This year we have long periods with nothing new.
  1. Vanguards is planned for Summer 2025. Q3 is until the end of September 2025.
  2. Panther Clipper Mk II was unveiled in April. 28th of May is probably gameplay video and specs info. Release date could be in July 2025.
  3. 3rd new ship in Autumn = probably September or October 2025.
  4. Secret new feature and 4th new ship in Winter 2025 = probably December 2025.
So May, June till late July we get nothing new except maybe a few Trailblazers patches to fix bugs and improve some stuff.

Whatever the new feature is I think it won't be any of the top 5 requests.

How will you survive the new content drought?

Update: ED has a revival of player activity, an increase of significant updates and ships which is great, but how many more years do we have to wait for big DLC such as Earth-like worlds, water worlds, gas giants, high metal content worlds with lava (volcanism), when can we land on the moon in Sol, EVA gameplay, ship interiors, change the HUD color in the menu, graphics upgrades (fix anti-aliasing, more level of detail for the old low polygon (mega) ships and structures, path tracing / global illumination). If ED had more resources and a bigger team then we could have some of the most requested features sooner.

How often would you like to receive new content of the magnitude of Trailblazers?

I am looking at it glass half full. don't get me wrong I am the 1st to point out the features teased to be in the game which were cut, we went years with little new content and when Oddy launched it was a mess and not the game many hoped for. Elite is lacking so much instill want that game in the DDF and would pay for it.

but the reality is elite is well over 10 years old. I would say we are not having a lack of new content but quite the opposite, and whilst colonisation hasn't come close to the heights of last year's thargoid war and I am not expecting vanguards to either I am pretty pleased we are still getting updates
so like others said I shall continue to play the game on and off as I have for the last 5 years or so (I was fully committed before then) and then in between am having a lot of fun with Helldivers 2

We go years without ships or any major changes and now people have gotten used to regular items and CGs so going a few months is suddenly a drought. It's better they take their time and make stuff good instead of throwing out more stuff that's incomplete. I don't like most of their recent content but they're doing way more than ever.

You call this content drought ? You must have missed the total content wasteland after 2018, right up to 2021 and the abysmal release of Odyssey.

Give my Mandalay a ride and chart ALL star systems :) Back in... 1.2 million years?!?

I've been with ED since the Kickstarter. The drought was worse in the past. Still I think updates with new content or additions to existing features should be more frequent. Or give players more sandbox tools to create emergent gameplay. Maybe they're working on a big expansion, but I doubt it.

is this based on some comparison with the past, comparison with other mmo games in this scale, or just a personal expectation?

i think that there is more than enough space for emergent gameplay to happen. you just have to do it. thats the fun of sandbox. nobody is holding your hand, you have to create the happening. example given : these guys have been pretty busy, dont you think?

ED could use more sandbox tools / mechanics. Such as let squadrons (guilds, factions) create missions for other players. More depth to the harvest -> build -> destroy cycle. Trailblazers added many facilities to build, but there's few options for utilization and customization. Facilities cannot be destroyed or damaged so the destroy part of the cycle remains shallow.

The last year with more than two "headline" feature releases was 2015 which had five (CGs, Wings, the original Powerplay, CQC, Horizons)

You could perhaps also count 2016 or 2018 in that while they only had two major releases those releases included multiple headline features each

If Frontier does manage to get colonisation + vanguards + mystery box all out in 2025 that will be surprising and also the largest number in a single year for quite a while.

i mean... thats kinda the downfall of elite. with the grand scope the game offers there is always some aspect, some kind of feature that could be implemented here or there to make the life better. at least from the pov of a wishful, enthusiastic player.
but can you really say that we arent getting (somewhat) enough?
as someone who has had a little peek behind the curtain here and there i think i recognise a great deal of work being done (and actually pretty well implemented as well [almost unexpectedly when talking about elite :p]) so i might look at things from a bit different pov.
there still are many flaws and misses, and not just in game, but eg in marketing as well, but i think that elite commanders have been eating very well these past few years, and the courses still seem to be coming...
i believe

With the asterisk that Trailblazers should have been originally released Q4 last year :) For total clarity.
