New ship: Panther Clipper

The Odyssey release was a disaster in many ways, and the system requirements was a major misstep, but a lot of salt from day one of the Alpha was because people had spent years imagining what could be.

I'd suggest that a lot more of the unhappiness was caused by the state of Odyssey on release. So bad that David Braben felt the need to apologise.

That's not even considering the failure to release Odyssey on console at all.

Elite Dangerous (ED) has a well-documented history of not always meeting player expectations.
Maybe it's me, but that the way that's worded points towards it being a FD problem...where in reality it's the player base who want the moon on a stick when any new feature is released. People get wrapped up theorising what features would be included in the next release, which inevitably leads to civil unrest when the release comes out.
It reminds me of my daughter at christmas...she circles EVERYTHING in the Argos catalog and expects Santa to bring them all, then gets disappointed when there aren't 100k presents under a 6 foot tree :D

This doesn’t contradict what I said. People were complaining before release, right from the start, about features they wanted that weren’t there.
Perhaps they're disapponited that features that Frontier trailed are likely still not coming for years, if ever. I have sympathy with that, as long as it's expressed within the forum rules.

Fairly indifferent about those who complain about self invented features, but as long as it's within the rules, can't see a problem. Reasonably bewildered by those who complain about those who complain. That only seems to add to the 'problem'.

Good to see that another trailed part of ED, the Panther Clipper is coming.

Try not to get your hopes up too high. Elite Dangerous (ED) has a well-documented history of not always meeting player expectations. This often stems from either technical limitations or the developers' own distinct visions for the game. For instance, I recall the carriers and the misleading promise that Odyssey wouldn't demand better hardware, which was a disaster upon release.
Regarding the PC, I'm quite ambivalent. I'm unsure if I genuinely need it. It might be useful for completing my colonization project, but beyond that, its utility is questionable for me. I suppose we'll just have to wait and see what they actually deliver initially.

And that’s what I like most about FDEV.

actually... they never mentioned that the ship could fly... therefore... its a logical request that the ship be released from the docking bay when its added to the game o3o

As a time poor solo player for the most part I'm hoping that the panther clipper is going to allow me to viably build an apollo space station. Even so I reckon its going to take a month or so as I can only realistically dedicate 1-2 hrs to elite a day!

Any idea when the "Summer update" (read as PC) from the Roadmap will happen?
What was "Summer" for them in the previous years? End of June, July, August?

Difficult to say, the Type 8 was released into early access in August after the Python mk2 released last May. If they followed the same pattern it would be July, but there's nothing to suggest they will. Hopefully, we'll know on Wednesday.

I wonder how many people are going to visit the rebuy screen when they leave the station for the first time. Like back in the day with the Anaconda.

Judging by the first pictures and the position of the cockpit, the approach will be Anaconda-like, the top of the mail slot almost flush with the ship.

And then, of course, there's an Advanced Docking Comp.
