Some people in the Lucasfilm writers group had no respect for the lore. They changed the characters and lore to something different which is in effect sabotaging a franchise. They got fat paychecks from Disney regardless of whether the movies flopped. The sequel trilogy made a lot of money, because old fans watched it for nostalgia. Now many don't care about SW anymore. The Acolyte (2024 Netflix series) costed $230 million ($28,7 mil per episode). It was awful and poorly received, yet the untalented film crew made a lot of money anyway.

Off hand the only non humanoid aliens from non animated Star Trek that come to mind are the Horta, most of the rest are so humanoid they are almost human enough to breed with.

A movie not so much but might make for an interesting sci fi series.
stand alone stories from different viewpoint factions etc might be good.
Regretfully we currently live in a time that good storytelling has moved to the background and political naratives are at the forefront .
It would not be good if made now

I'd only entertain such a movie if it was made at Pinewood Studios and NOT Hollywood. Elite is British and therefore the movie would need a British touch also

Making the ships themselves the stars and doing a lot of external shots could be an interesting approach. Famous/infmamous ships in sci-fi gain reputation like their captains/commanders. eg: The Enterprise (series of ships, but whatever).

In Peter F. Hamilton's books, the ships do have personalities, from the Edenist Voidhawks to the possessed Blackhawks, and even the non-sentient Adamist ships like the Lady McBeth has a kind of personality that is expressed through the writing.

I think the problem here is Elite is not such a hot property that anyone could afford to turn down a shot at it being made if they wanted to see anything at all.
