3 hard points but not enough power

I don't understand why the Eagle has three hard points, but if you mount a weapon on the third one, you don't have enough power to operate. I can't tell you exactly what weapon I bought, but it was the cheapest one. I just wanted to have a little bit of an edge with a third weapon, but no mater how I set up my system priorities, I'm screwed as soon as I deploy weapons. And since I can't upgrade power systems of any kind, I'm just stuck.

Are more expensive weapons often more energy efficient? Can I upgrade power systems, but I just haven't found a station that sells them?

Yep. Though module availability (or lack of it) was.... a point of controversy in earlier betas. I haven't played gamma yet so can't comment more than that. Essentially, find more power first.
 
Put your hard points on priority 1 and then things like cargo hatch onto 3. Then you can manage the power ;)
 
Well, that clears things up a bit. I've been playing since premium beta and I've never seen ANY system for sale other than things for hard points or utility. Not once! I was convinced they just hadn't implemented them yet.

Already tried. I was able to do that before the last wipe (I even turned off frame shift since it can't be used while weapons are out anyway). My current config just shuts everything off. I think cargo hatch gives you 3%, which just doesn't cover it. I'll have to spend some time trying to figure out what near by system has upgrades for sale.
 
It seems like the eagle has lost some power in gamma, it's still doable without a power plant upgrade (though you'll have to do without oxygen during combat for a while) but you'll want a power plant upgrade as soon as possible. Seems like industrial economies are more likely to stock them.

I suspect the power drop was a bug though.

Or just disable the cargo hatch entirely, since you're doing combat. Apparently they fixed the cargo hatch module resetting bug.

Umm....did you even play Beta 2/3 once? How could you miss that?
 
You might be able to use 2x pulse and a multi-cannon, just not 3x pulse. You should be able to try out each loadout without losing any credits? Was that way for me in Beta at least.
