Elite Dangerous | 2025 Roadmap

that is what I have never got! it's surely not a technical issue the pieces are already there. we have ships crew (if we choose). and in multicrew we can see that the feature exists to see characters in seats... so why on earth (or in space) can we not see our crew in their seats?
Also the Apex Interstellar Transport's shuttle service has you and an npc in the ship as well, so yeah not really a technical limitation from that point.

Maybe some of you remember in Elite ii that the Panther Clipper's Cargo Hold was 2,100 (At least according to chat gpt). It would sweeten our pot if Frontier released it very soon! Can't wait, I'm so excited if Fdev could match the cargo to Previous Releases! o7

Was that before or after you included drives etc?

Back then it was all part of the tonnage availability.
That would be before anything had been fitted to the ship:

In FE2/FFE that was the total internal space which in ED is split between four different module types and slots. Once you'd fitted a hyperdrive (essential), weapons (essential in FE2/FFE), shields (likewise), and other basic utilities like sensors, atmospheric shielding, etc. you'd probably be well below 1500t cargo space - and well below 1000t if you were fitting plasma accelerators to it.

The Panther's total gross weight (hull + all internals) was 2500t ... an Imperial Cutter is 2600t and a T-9 is 2000t in "average" fits (i.e. neither trying to reduce nor increase weight)

I'm punting in that it's going to be around 1100-1300 useable cargo space after adding drives and other essentials. Can't see it being anything close to 2000 given size it would need to be to fit in a station. That said, make it 2500 and let it dock with orbital arms on stations!

If it has around 1.5k cargo space in its optionals (going by ED’s outfitting rather than the older game, which I haven’t played), I might consider it worth a purchase for some of my colonization endeavors. But if it’s “only” around 1,000 when you begin to include things like shields and/or “Don’t-make-my-hull-paper”, I wouldn’t be so sold (pun intended).

I think we'll know tomorrow. Usually FDEV give the internals and hardpoints in the next stream after the initial reveal. And as usual as well we'll have to wait for the number of utility slots until actual release.

My guess is still on 2048 tons (max.) in those grey containers in the back. That looks to me like 4 compartments for either 8x 8E CRs (á 256 t) or for 4x (new to invent) 9E CRs (á 512 t).
These slots are cargo only... Plus some internals for shieldgenerator, fuelscoop, etc. (but maybe not suited for additional cargo racks... 🤷‍♂️)

I don't expect more than 1536t which would be already a massive increase in capacity. It also would make sense to get more specialised slots and modules which really excel in one area and give a ship more purpose. E.g. a ship based on Guardian tech which can be equipped only with Guardian modules are at least Guardian modules would greatly boost its capacity - including the drawback that it might be very vulnerable to Thargoid anti-Guardian fields.

I am really pleased with the Panther Clipper Mark II. This is not going to fit into the mail slot of a star-port or any large standard landing pad. Its just too massive. Going to need drones to deliver and receive cargo, plus a new menu to do remote purchases and deliveries. Perhaps an Ultra-large Landing pad for planetary ports and outposts. Probably going to find this ship is going to have either new module classes (such as a Class 8 FSD) or numbers (such as two Class 8 power plants). Excited enough to go to the Frontier Store to buy 60.000 ARX for the vessel (was buying vessels with in-game earned ARX during discount periods). We are going to need this for the 220,000 t star-port construction projects.

No idea what cargo capacity this beast will have. My expectation is that it should have AT LEAST double the capacity of a Imperial Cutter (2 x 780 = 1560T). Either double the cargo racks or a new 512T class cargo rack.

Where do I store/park this beast when not in use?

Actually very excited. Enough so that I will purchase 60,000 ARX from the Frontier Development Store to be one of the first ones to purchase it.

I hope, with the massive polygons, my nVIDIA RTX 3060 graphics card does not becomes insufficient and I have to buy a replacement despite the 100% Trump Tarrif.

Yes it will, with ample space for more.
When entering the mail slot, only two measures are important: the width and the height of the ship. The game counts it as a rectangle X by Y. For landing pad, you add Z, the length.

Here's the illustration of how much a rectangle/cube makes a Cutter, it's X, Y and Z.
(red lines are what goes through the mail slot when a Cutter docks)

Notice how much empty space is in there, wasted for being pointy and elegant, enough to squeeze at least 3-4 hulls of a Cutter if you use all the available space for a boxy transport ship. If ED wishes so, they could make a 3-4K cargo capacity hauler in that rectangle.

If we're just talking about a ship that's a big set of cargo canister racks (volume 2m^3 per canister) with a few engines and thrusters around the outside then it could carry 200,000t of cargo in that physical cuboid space. The larger ships have so much internal volume spare on paper that even a box the size of a Type-6 could hold several thousand tonnes of cargo.

Obviously the catch there would be that it couldn't move because the maximum mass on 8A thrusters is only 5040t (and the thrusters themselves take 160t of that, then add on fuel, hull, other core internals, etc.). With the requirement for it to be able to move at all with 8E thrusters, a ship with a total normal [1] mass over 3360t is probably not possible.

[1] You can with ridiculous choice of engineering blueprints make a Cutter which exceeds the maximum mass of 8E and 8D thrusters (though I think you can't quite exceed the maximum for 8D while the 8D are fitted to the ship) but that is very definitely not normal.
