Yeah, a bit far unless really keen.
They can sign up remotely then they have almost 10 days to jump back and deliver their contribution.
But it is an inconvenience.

Greetings Commanders, We are removing the requirement to be in the winning community goal in order to obtain the second set of module rewards. However, you must still be in the top 75% or above. This change is to enable more CMDRs to support the trailing power during these competitive CGs

There's always the option to defect to Mahon, defect back to Kaine, and deliver another few tonnes of cargo... Don't know if that wipes your earlier deliveries off the global progress as well, though.

Every time you defect to the opposite side, you lose all previous progress made.
If you've delivered 5000t to Mahon and defect, you lose 5000t of personal progress, definitely. But does Mahon lose 5000t of global progress too?

Doubtful, delivered is delivered. You just forfeit your rewards by defecting.
It might just be me, but don't the Charge enhanced PD beat those Double bubble PD to a pulp, FDev would need to make them triple engineered to be of any use.

Someone said you can only collect the PDs if you are in the ship you used for the deliveries.

I used two different ships on my main (T8 and Cutter) and for my other accounts, I can't remember which ships I used.

No, I jumped my carrier to do something else before the end of the CG and popped back in my Mandy to complete the CG. They showed up in outfitting straight away for me.
