Planet Zoo | Asia Animal Pack | Announcement

What if that's a teaser for a free cobra in the update? Huh? Hmm? Huh?
That's it, we're getting exhibit animals in free updates from now on

I just caught this in the teaser...Froniter I love you, BUT STOP PUTTING COBRA STUFF IN THE GAME IF THERE'S NO MOFO'ING COBRAS!!!!

They did say they would reveal more as we get closer, maybe it makes it in after all who knows.

Also where did the butterfly image come from originally anyway? Was it on steam or just given to content creators (with early access)?

After gathering my thoughts a bit, I want to share my own feelings on the pack, ranking each of the animal choices:

7. Bornean Pygmy Elephant – 2/10. I'd be surprised if this was not the last spot for anyone. Frontier's most unnecessary inclusion yet. I feel like this was included simply to get an easy remodel in and to get people talking about the pack, which this animal certainly achieved. I don't even care if it looks good, I most likely won't use it so long as we have the much more useful Indian Elephant (which looks amazing in its own right, especially for a base game animal).

6. Japanese Raccoon Dog – 7/10. I have yet to be converted into a Tanuki lover, but that's because I've never seen them in real life and I'm really happy for those who wanted them for a long time (especially @biggest_dreamer). Really curious to see them in game. I can see them becoming a sleeper hit for me.

5. Père David's Deer – 8/10. They're only ranked so low because I love the rest of the pack so much. Great animal with an important conservation story that fills a niche that needed covering. They were my third most-wanted Asian ungulate. I wouldn't have been mad at a Muntjac either, but these ones are such a positive surprise.

4. Honey Badger – 8/10. They look amazing, they are found all over Asia and Africa and can fit into multiple sections (including Middle East/Desert sections and Safari habitats), extremely versatile and useful and also a challenge to build for considering their escape talents. Great choice.

3. Lion-Tailed Macaque – 9/10. Such a useful primate. They'll go into all my Orangutan and Gibbon habitats from now on. I finally begin to feel like our primate roster is shaping up. (I still want more South American primates, though!)

2. Blackbuck – 10/10. My most-wanted ungulate. It would have been a major disappointment not to get them. Frontier is so good at modeling ungulates that I can't wait to see them.

1. Nilgai – 10/10. Honestly, what a cool pick. I wanted the Blackbuck more, but I'm putting the Nilgai at my top spot because 1) I love that we get a fitting companion for the Blackbuck for shared enclosures and 2) I've seen the Nilgai as an underdog oddball pick and never expected them to make it into the game, so I squealed of excitement when I read their name in the announcement. They're actually a shared top spot with the Blackbuck for me, but I'm so happy we got these guys.

The Elephant sticks out like a sore thumb, but other than that this looks like an amazing pack with great choices. I would have loved a Golden Pheasant or Mandarin Duck; hell, even the Asiatic Lion would have been a more useful addition than the new Elephant, but it is what it is. I'm now half-convinced that if support continues, we'll get a Safari Pack with a new Giraffe and a new Zebra next. (They better include at least two birds if they do such a pack.)

Nilgai might also be my top spot, I've been in love with them ever since seeing a herd on a zoo safari tram ride, the Nilgai and Elands really sparked my hoofstock interest

I love how despite disagreeing about whether we should have gotten the Japanese Racoon Dog or the Pere David's Deer, we can all agree that the Bornean Elephant was a terrible choice and should have been replaced with something else. Rarely have I seen this community so united on anything.

I have a friend who I told about the pack today and she dismissed all the animals as boring or unnecessary... until she learned there's a new elephant, and she was practically unstoppable in her excitement, calling it the one animal that will make her buy this pack.

Yes, I do sometimes wonder why I'm friends with her. 🤣
