This week witnessed an intense race for control of the Ross 145 system. What started as a boom market opportunity for local miners, escalated into a bitter turf war between Makhai and the Federation.
We have verified a report that an unarmed Kaine mining vessel was ruthlessly destroyed by a Federal assassin, as they were making their way to sell a full load of ore at Levchenko City.
Other analysts noted it was not only Archer operatives attempting to thwart Makhai's progress, with some Winters combat pilots also joining the fray. Makhai's allies from Elite Kaine and ARRC were also spotted in system. Conflict zones saw teams of commanders from both sides trying to turn the tide. Elsewhere, bitter one-on-ones ensued, with Makhai's fearsome Misery Wing on hand to distract any would-be assailants and to ensure safe passage for Kaine pledged miners.
With both sides' control score reaching well into the 700,000s, the contest went down to the wire. Unfortunately, the combined Federal forces couldn't be stopped on this occasion and Ross 145 has been successfully exploited in the name of Jerome Archer. A member of Makhai's Vorpal Wing remained philosophical in defeat:
"Ross 145 clearly meant something to the Feds from a militaristic perspective. To be fair they fought doggedly for it. For us, it was an opportunity to protect a new mining trade route. Something that would have benefited the local economy and the people. But as the old Sol proverb says... Mission failed. We'll get em next time."
It was another modest cycle elsewhere for Councillor Kaine who now occupies 783 systems compared to last week's 779. But recent history shows that Kaine often put up significant acquisition numbers following a quiet planning period. We shall see if this is the case next week.
