New ship: Panther Clipper

Not that they couldn’t botch the Panther, but I’m genuinely looking forward to seeing what checks and balances they put into its design.
My primary guesses in that regard (with some hinting from Frontier during the initial reveal) is that it is not going to be great-handling ship and it similarly won't be extremely fast. Almost certain it won't beat out the Cutter in that aspect, but if it's a bigger T9 that might still be a decent option for those either not bothered to get the rank, or are avoiding it for roleplay reasons.

Maximum mass on 8E thrusters (unengineered) is 3360T, maximum on 8D+G5 DD is 3308T [1], so a ship which is heavier than those points in conventional configurations seems unlikely.

Set aside at least 700t for core internals of a similar size to the Cutter and a bit of extra weight for utility slots and assume the Panther's hull mass is about the same as its cargo capacity to match the various Type-N freighters and other bulk haulage designs, and that sets a maximum of about 1300t cargo capacity before it can't actually leave the dock in some reasonably normal setups.

[1] Admittedly if you're D-rating the thrusters on a Panther Clipper to "save weight" you may be working against the ship's intent, but I'm sure people will do it anyway.

Hmm, I wonder if that ties in with what Frontier have said about the unusual hull composition of the Panther? Hull mass might be significantly less than its cargo capacity.

True, so if we look at the cargo difference, type 8 gave us a ~30% increase in medium pad cargo capacity. If the panther clipper follows the same ~30% over the type 9, it'll have around 1027t unshielded capacity.

The Python/ T8 situation is a bit odd though, as neither of those actually fills a medium pad. The Python is too flat, and the T8 has wasted space between the two "prongs", neither is a rectangular brick.

Could be, but that then leads into the "Anaconda Problem" where the ship has a perfectly normal (though certainly decent for its size class) laden jump range and a bizarrely large one in a lightweight fit without all that assumed cargo, comically downsized plant and distributor, etc.

You know...I'm more hoping for a date when the Corsair comes out of early ARXess than the info about the Panther.
Did they confirm that the new ships will eventually have "late" access at all? I wouldn't be surprised if the new line of ships is ARX-only. I mean, if the PC2 is having some decent cargo cap, that would be the perfect candidate for that kind of "escalation".

The Clipper needs to cut those 40-60 runs of "The Big 5" commodities for colonization down to 1/4th of what they are, so in 10-15 runs, as opposed to 40-60 runs.
No they don’t. The most steel you need to move for one structure is 42,282 for a large ground port. To do that in 15 runs would be a cargo hold size of 2818 which is ridiculous.

A Cutter with 792 tons of space does that steel in 54 trips. A 1000 ton Panther does that in 43 trips. A 1200 ton Panther does 36 trips.

18 fewer trips in the worst case quantity scenario is a benefit that I take and walk away smiling.

Well, on my side that would escalate to "uninstall".

Well then, I look forward to the “I’m not buying the Panther Clipper” thread with great gusto so I can read about all the reasons that people talk about a ship that they don’t intend to ever get, honest and truly.
I'm not ready to buy any, and I didn't. In fact I want SCO update for elders.
However, if new one will do x2-x3 to deliveries boost, than it is reason to buy it..and summer :D On autumn I would wait 3 months too.

It's a game forum...
Folk even announce when they are going to quit - or how they want the game changed to suit their desires.
Saying they are not buying a ship is cold toast compared to the bigger things!

Well, since it will be a single number they'll complain about, it could get boring fast.
