Cosmetics Sale is about to end

Cosmetics store sale is set to end on the 10th.

Just saw the sale is on so had a look at the store for the first time in years.

Holy spitballs, Batman the price increases are no joke....

When I used to play ED before the 4 year hiatus, I used to buy stuff a couple of times per month.. I've spent a few hundred quid in the store and never felt prices were insane.

God I wish I'd just purchased the whole fricking store back in the day with current pricing being kind of sick.

Every aspect of our life is being nickled and dimed, from the tiny size of the products we buy, to Las Vegas now up to $80 margaritas, to the cost of digital products (not new products, heaven forbid having to create something new) but old products being marked up by a factor of anywhere up to 20 X !
And yet salaries never ever keep pace with this "nu reality".

Not wrong though. I remember a couple of years ago once seeing a 5000 Arx paint job and thinking that was way more than I was willing to pay. That was the sort of thing in ridiculous territory.

Good thing I did raid the store over previous years, so there's not much I actually feel the need to buy any more. Not at those prices anyway.

Now, if stuff was in the store that was both new and good I'd not be bothered, but the only stuff that gets my attention was the same stuff that was there 8 years ago.

Ah sorry. I meant my store history page.

I just put some money down for arx for the PC2 which I swore to myself I wasn’t going to buy with real cash

What started this off was that my card didn’t go through so I checked my store page, which I hadn’t checked for very long time in fact at first I couldn’t even find it, it’s on frontier’s top page not the Arx store page. (How long? All the payments were made with PayPal which explained why I had to set up a new payment method ) only to see those receipts from years ago.

I thought I remembered things were cheaper years ago. You know how memory is, everything is better in the past.

But then to be confronted with the hard evidence that I hadn’t misremembered and they were a factor of 10 cheaper in some cases…

So yeah, sorry, yes I apologize for misdirecting you with the post and making it a little baity.

ummm... maybe I got my maths wrong, but... you list six weapon and engine colors, at 960 ARX each that's 5.760 ARX. I can't find an equivalent to the Predator pack, but there are three Predator paints in the store if I haven't miscounted, at 3k ARX per paint that's another 9k ARX. There are three vibrant paints in the store for 960 ARX each, adding another 2.880 ARX to the list for a total of 17.640 ARX.

I usually buy ARX in the 54k package for 30 Euro, so that's roughly 55 cents per 1k ARX, making 17.640 ARX worth 9 Euro and 80 Cents. Incidentally, you can buy the 16k ARX pack for 9.59 Pounds, and you get 17.700 ARX for it if you prefer to buy your ARX matching to your purchase.

Now maybe there were more skins in those packs, I don't know. But tell me again how you get scammed with an eight year old price of 12 Pounds being more than what you get at a discount right now.

At least I did the math. [Edited out because it contained a whole lot of embarrassing nonsene]

Still not as an outrageous increase as you make it be, much less so if you consider 12 Pounds in 2017 equals about 16 Pounds today. Not saying it's not expensive, but it's hardly the outrage you make it seem.

Edit: Maybe this shouldn't apply to digital goods, but that's a different discussion. We live in inflationary times; the shoes I am wearing cost 40 bucks in 2017. The same pair I bought this year was 70. Same shoes.

Yeah, digging my own grave here. Sorry, I read your posts wrong. Should have whipped out the spreadsheet much earlier instead of doing a doomed back of the napkin calculation.

The facts: 6 Corvette skins, 6 figher skins, 6 detailings, 12 Pounds. Corvette skins are 3k right now, Fighter skins 960, detailing also 3k. Did I get it right this time? If yes: Your above pack costs 23.19 Euro or 19.33 Pounds today, with the applied discounts included, with 12 2017 Pounds still being a little over 16 after inflation today. If I am again wrong: I am going to bed now, feel free to call me names while I am asleep. Seriously, I mean it.

Alright, I have enough ARX to afford one ship kit bundle. Do I go for Python MK2 or Corsair?

DPS wise, I heard both are comparable but the corsair turns slower than PMK2. Haven't actually flew the corsair yet so I don't have 1st hand experience.

both ships are available in game. Paying real money for them after release is interesting.

Buy both in game, kit them out and see which one you like. Sometimes the engine sound alone or canopy design can swing your decision. Neither appear in soreadsheets.

Alright, now that I had enough sleep and didn't fumble on the maths anymore, it seems. time to add to the outrage now that the discounts are ending.

Obfusctating the real world value with a virtual currency is an industry wide problem and as you can see, even if you DO the maths you can tumble heavily if you want to find out the real world value. It's the devil's work.

And those midnight black paints are OBSCENELY expensive even with discounts. So are the chrome ones when they are available.

I still bought them for my money-bought Cobra V because it gives me a fizz in imy pizzle when I walk back to my shiny ship after massacring a settlement and see my shiny Cobra V, so maybe I am not so sane after all, and doesn't help the argument how expensive the stuff has become. I try to catch the better looking stuff on discounts, but don't always manage to.

Which ship kit? There are two for the Python. Go check them both out in the livery and judge for yourself. either in-game or from the main menu extras option. Those packs have three ship kit parts and a bunch of paints. Personally I think the Spacehawk dish for the Python looks stupid, but the Gladius pack for the Corsair looks decent-ish. I got none of them, I have the Javelin ship kit I got with the Stellar version, and it has six kit pieces which look decent.

I've decided to go with the Javelin kit for corsair, since I feel as a multipurpose ship I will be owning more of it compared to PMK2. I'll get the Gladius pack in the next sale, it looks decent-ish as you said.

I got the Stellar version of the Corsair because I liked mostly the option it gave for the nose. I only got the basic version of the Python because I don't really like the looks to begin with (the old Python looks orders of magnitues better) and the ship kits only make it worse 😁.

to be fair i post here a lot but i have only ever looked at the store a handful of times (up until a few months ago i would have said not looked in years too........ but then i spent a load of ARX on naming bases as well as finally bought a carrier skin and paint in this sale.)

I have a lot of paints that don’t exists any more.

Mostly vibrant reds, greens, yellows and blues.

Then the military tone sets

And the tactical tone sets for most of my ships.

Came with all 6 colours in one pack.

Now you can only find Vibrant usually in purple. The other five colours are gone for some reason.

My personal suspicion is that it seems like they gave the Vibrant liveries to the Powerplay NPC-s. And it's a shame that you won't get an official faction livery from your Powerplay pledge.
