Hi All :)

Having contributed to this games kickstarter way back when it was first announced I bought a (roughly) $60 'package'. I followed the games development for about a year...and then just gave up as it was obvious the game wasn't going to materialise in any useful form for quite a few years. I would assume I've still got an account with them, but I haven't been back to check, or indeed what package I've accrued over that time. In the first year or so I seem to remember being automatically 'awarded' some stuff on a semi regular basis for being one of the first backers. I was 'promised' the finished game, Squadron 42 which just recently it was announced somewhere that it would most likely be 'released' as a standalone game in 2026?

Could someone fill me in on whether this is perhaps a genuine statement, or is it just another hand wavium statement by Chris Roberts and his band of Comanchero's!...:D
I count myself lucky that at approximately the same time I also joined the kickstarter for Elite Dangerous....ye gods!...what a difference!. 😍

So what's the predictions?...is a 2026 release for Squadron 42 a genuine possibility, or not?

Jack :)
Well, many say that most resources were redirected from SC to SQ42 as Chris R. is determined to finally release it.
Whether it's going to happen... your guess is as good as anyone else's.
Like Agony said, they were announcing SQ42 being 2 years away from release literally every 2 years since the very beginning so...

Maybe this time will be different ;)

Based on the evidence to date, and combined with Roberts' track record, I seriously doubt that either game will ever see a formal release, or anything vaguely resembling completion of their handwavium scope.

CIG has long appeared as a money pit and, functioning scam or not, the return on investment has been staggeringly, appallingly poor, and arguably, incompetently poor.

My current best hope is that the hackers dent funding enough to force significant changes within the company. I do not expect this to happen. Where's an 'evil' publisher when you need one?

....
(They've got to dump it out some time though. Even if it's more melty magnum than magnum opus...)
I'm not sure that they do, or will, let alone 'can'.

The evidence seems to suggest that they will keep kicking the funding-can down the road for as long as possible, until maintaining the performance becomes unsustainable, and then it'll be 'so long and thanks for all the fish', we all dreamed too big, it's been a wild ride, the technology isn't ready, we've absolved ourselves, and here's a link to Citizen Starship, a very exciting new project.... we're in talks with Idris Elba....

For SC yeah. (Although there is the nominal 1.0 target now, no doubt as part of an unreliable internal roadmap, primarily for the investors ;))

But SQ42 doesn't bring in explicit funds, and is the core of CR's dreams of a legacy. The reboot to reclaim his name.

To placate both fans (who want their money to go to SC ;)) and investors (who want that epic 2016 Mark Hamill project windfall), he's got all the reasons to publish...

Which just bring us back to: can't.

Game is clearly still poop currently ;)

I'm old enough to not want to skip time forward, but I cannot wait what state Sq42 will be released in, if at all.
Like I'm really curious. It's been 13 years!
Either way it's going to be great fun. If we get an amazing cinematic experience and a great single player sci fi game - amazing!
If it's going to be a fail, it will be the biggest and most epic fail in the history of gaming. Either way it's going to be a great show to watch :)
