Panther Clipper MK II | Highlights

Can anyone show up this "Initiative exclusive Panther Clipper Mk II ZPG Gold Paintjob"?
From the CG thread:

as well as the exclusive gold paint job I noticed that there is also "A specially engineered Point Defence module is also being made available by the corporation"

...overall size of the Panther in relation to the large landing pad. Basically there's some more wriggle room there it seems as regards ship size, so maybe any ship slightly larger than the Panther is possible in future?

Oh absolutely, and it doesn't have to be just slightly larger, there's ample room both in the mail slot and on the landing pad.

In that regard, our ships are boxes. The pointy noses, elegant curves etc are masking their true size for the slot and the pad - the max width of the wingtips, tail height, absolute length etc that make ship's box. So far, the largest box is Beluga and she dwarfs Panther by far (Panther's box is 3/4 the size of Beluga's):

Panther 146.86m x 117.09m x 33.8m
Beluga
_ 209.10m x 131.60m x 38.6m

So the next huge hauler can be more than 50 meters longer than PC2 (a third of PC's length) etc... and it will fit the slots and pads same as Beluga.

So uhm... how long was this thing in the works?
And no one did catch that the hardpoints fire through the ship and the cargo-scoop?

I am a bit miffed by this to be honest.

Also, with the size now being considerably less than expected, can we get the LX please as well next? That one looked way better from initial concept art and it would be a shame to let it go to waste.

Additionally, some love for the Beluga would be appreciated as well.

I posted about it.. here.

Hi :)

I'm not miffed, just a bit surprised that the animated graphical error was either overlooked, or perhaps in the rush to get the ship into a release state it was more of a case of something to fix later...and just got forgotten about.
I've had many a job at home I was meaning to finish but got distracted...only for the consequence's of that to suddenly bite me on the a*** later on. :D
It'll be interesting though to see how it's remedied.;)

Jack :)

It just needs to be rotated so it points aft.
Just imagine the outrage when people learn they couldn't use fixed weapons (or gimbals very easily) with the hardpoints. Don't think it would bother me as I'd only use the ship to periodically fight off an NPC pirate and turrets would likely suffice to that end... but...

I am imagining it and trying to remember where my grin covering face mask is.

Greetings Commanders

On this week's Frontier Unlocked we shared an in depth look at the Panther Clipper MK II, which launches into ARX Early Access on 22nd July. If you missed the show, you can catch up below to see the Panther take flight for the first time!

Below we have added three example builds to whet your appetite when it comes to outfitting this legendary ship - we can't wait to see what builds you come up with for yourselves!

Build 1 - Optimised For Cargo

This build maximises your storage space, perfect for the safer trade routes or colonisation efforts, or for when you absolutely have to transport as much cargo as possible.

Build 2 - Long-range Comfort

Sacrifice some storage space for comforts such as shields, a fuel scoop and an advanced docking computer to make your long-range cargo running more comfortable.

Build 3 - Striking A Balance

Looking for more of a balance? This build has everything you could deem as essentials for hauling, without sacrificing too much storage space.

I would suggest that a class 4 FSD booster would make more sense than a 5. Using a fully engineered FSD this is a good combination to jump reasonable distances and still have that extra 16t.
For shields, why don't you guys use bi-weaves engineered for thermal resistance and fast charge?
Then for utilities look at two shield boosters, chaff and maybe a point defence for the bottom of the ship.
I would like to engineer the powerplant for low emissions to make it cool so they can't lock on.
Even as shieldless (I will have 2) I would put point defense, chaff and a heat sink on and engineer the PP for low emissions.
The shielded one of to fight those 9 Anacondas and the shieldless one to avoid them and to build more stations.
I am thinking for a reinforced hull for the shieldless one and light weight for the shielded one. Everything obviously engineered to the max.
Guns on the shielded one would be some kind of lasers and multi-can ons.

A small Bi-Weave might be too weak on a ship as large as the Panther.
We will have to see how the numbers look, but the lack of Utility slots realy hurts its potential in that regard. I also found out that going Reinforced usuall works better and combine that with Thermal Resistant Shield Boosters with the Boost-Bonus Experimental to reduce the weight Penalty, which can be quite big from Boosters.

Not sure if you need the Point Defense if you got a shield, but for any unshielded builds, the current CG rewards are a god-send.

I agree that the Size 4 FSD Booster makes more Sense, considering the Size 4 Slot available, although I might slot a SCB or Guardian Shield Reenforcement there and still go for the Size 5.
As was pointed out, I did miscalculate in my last post, but if I am now correct, my planed build (S6 Shield, S5 FSD Booster, S4 SCB or Shield Reinforcement + both assists) should net me a round 1120t. Utilities will be 4 Boosters and 2 Heat Sinks, which should allow for usage of the SCO boost as well, depending on how it manages heat. The Type 8 isn't exactly running cool to be honest, especially compared to Cobra V and Corsair.

which can be quite big from Boosters.
Might be valid for a medium ship, but considering the PC2’s size/status as a large ship and how much cargo it can carry… the mass penalty of heavy duty to shield boosters probably won’t be particularly noticeable. As for the shield itself, I guess it would be personal choice but reinforced might serve the ship better as it’s probably not going to dodge many plasma accelerator shots.

Two heatsinks might also be overkill for SCO optimized ships. I managed to go 500k [ls] with a T8 using a single launcher, not that I would know what you could do with said sixth utility on the Panther then. More shields, I guess? Or some other defensive utility.
