There must be a better way to do these pre configured ships...

I have bought all the early access ships in early access, except the mandalay and the type 8. I always go for the base model as I like to do my own modules and engineering, but I foolishly decided to go for the premium Panther Clipper, as I saw a bunch of expensive A rated core modules are included and I thought I'd save some cash.

Then I tried to store some of the modules... and you can't. WHAT?

So I'm stuck with these modules on the ship forever? If I engineer the Power Plant shielded for example, then later I decide I also want an overcharged power plant, I have to throw away the module that came on the ship? Wasting the millions of credits I shortcutted by spending the extra ARX AND the engineering materials??? This is unacceptable.

I understand why it's like that, people could strip the modules, sell the ship for 0 credits, then redeploy. But this is too high a price for the User who paid money for a preconfigured ship, to pay to avoid this exploit. Surely there must be a way to ID the specific modules as ones that were pre-paid and you then can't deploy a new version of the ship if any of those modules are in storage?

It is not a small amount of in game credits to buy all the core modules A rated, now this ship is compromised and inflexible compared to the others which I didn't pay ARX for.

Will the modules be storable after it comes out for game credits in a couple of months? If not, then I paid ARX for a ship that will be compromised forever.

I'm not very happy.

(no idea if it would work) but could you ask support to refund you and then rebuy the standard version.

There are a bunch of reasons why i do not like selling ships for real money.. but the issue with the modules is one of them.

I'm trying to decide if I care enough to go through all that. I think it's important that people who spend money are aware of this massive limitation on ships they spend real money on. Grrrr.

I would have bought less ARX too if I'd known. Very disappointing. I thought I was about to get the premium experience and instead I get a compromised one.

I got caught out by this on a previous ship. There was zero warning when switching modules either...engineered FSD lost to the FDev gods.
What I do now is replace all free modules with purchased ones. Only down side is your rebuy cost is increased...but that doesn't affect me because I don't see the rebuy screen unless I choose to :D (prob the same goes for yourself regarding the rebuy screen)
It's the 620 million reactive armour that nearly made me spit for coffee everywhere.
So far my Mk2 has cost me 1.2 billion credits :D

This is why I thought I was smart getting the ARX version :D

They did say that the modules couldn’t be removed, stored or transferred when the first early access ship was announced and launched.

There was a lot of arguments about it on the forums at the time.

The idea is I believe to stop people deploying the EA ship swapping the modules onto something else then redeploying the ship and repeating the exploit.

Being unable to remove the modules seems to me the simplest and therefore most reliable way to stop this.

Yeh I did say I understand the reason in the OP.

Unchangeable modules??? How would that not be infinitely worse?! Better to not include any modules than include ones that can't be changed!! Just the ship and the extra paintjobs/bodykits is how it should be, don't make people pay to get compromised A rated modules.

You can swap the modules out, but you can only sell, not store them.
Yeh I thought spending the extra ARX and getting A modules would be a benefit not a hindrance, I just have to look at it as that I only got the ship, the paint and any wangs for the ARX the modules are just for convenience flying it to an outfitter I suppose. /sadge

Not the end of the world. At least I noticed before I engineered anything. :p

I buy the stellar for the PJ & Kit, then buy a standard from the shipyard and tart it up with all the Stellar kit / PJ
Means the virgin Stellar is available for deploying if I get desperate, and saves the messing around with modules.

Yep, this is a lesson everybody who's bought an Arx-ship has had to learn.

If you can find an Arx-ship that you're comfortable with, out of the box, deploy it, fly it, get exploded, un-deploy it and feel smug about how many Credits you're saving on rebuys and ship transfers.

If you plan to modify or engineer an Arx-ship, leave the "free" one un-deployed, go to Jameson Memorial (other dealerships are available), buy a ship for Credits - which you can do for any Arx-ship you buy - and modify/engineer that one instead.

Ship-kits and paint bought with the Stellar version can, of course, be used on any ship of the same type so, for those of us who don't fly any ship until we've fully engineered it, those are the main reasons to buy the Stellar version.
Also, buying the Stellar version (and leaving the free ship un-deployed) means that if you ever find yourself in some backwater, you can land at any local station and deploy a half-decent ship to use.

But, yeah.
Bottom line is that it's probably best to leave the free Arx-ship un-deployed, buy one for Credits and tinker with that instead.

I buy the stellar for the PJ & Kit, then buy a standard from the shipyard....

Was in-game earlier and in the chat somebody was complaining that they had to buy a standard version because they couldn't buy 2 stellar versions and they wanted a PC2 as a cargo ship and as a mining ship. 😖

I did ask them to clarify that they'd bought both ships for Arx and they confirmed that's what they'd done.
Not at all happy when I told them they could buy as many as they want from the JM shipyard for Credits once they'd bought one for Arx.

I wonder how much FDev are earning from people who don't fully understand how this all works?

It's a freaky thing, for sure, despite having a good reason - of sorts - behind it. Bit of a kludge, really.
I was lucky enough to learn about it here on the forum before buying my first ARX ship. (As a result of that I even named the deployed ship "Cinderella" to remind me never to do any engineering on it!)

Thankfully, for once, me not paying attention saved me from this. I was going to buy the Stellar version but the store slide show of the ship messed with my head and I ended up clicking on the ship-kit. To my surprise at Jameson I found no Panther Clipper. So I went back and said heck with it and got the regular version. The kit looks nice so no regrets but yeah, if what you say is true, better stick with the regular and buy paint and kits afterwards.

Try a support ticket Ash. It's only a few button presses. Better than a bitter purchase. o7

Yup my first ship bought was the kitted beluga, did not like the shopping bag icon on my modules, had engineered them slightly, and then discarded them all and installed credit bought modules. I do think the stellars are better bang for your buck, a ship, a kit, and paint job, just can't stand those shopping bag icons. It also limits your builds, like if you wanted to run light, or cool, or armoured, you gotta take them off to any of that stuff. Kinda makes the ship one dimensional the way it is.
