New (new) ship teased - Type-11 Prospector

While its configured differently, the aesthetic reminds me of the Betty:

Isn't the lance a waste of time?
Never had one (being a PP 'reward'), so have no idea.

Its pretty sucky yes. Its rubbish for combat and rubbish for mining. The fact it has longer range is worthless since for the sake of collectors you want to be close to the rock.

Still have one fitted to my core miner, just to have one and occasionally poke rocks for laser mining, but its really nothing more than a meme weapon.

The only time i've actively used them was when there was a ganker in a system so i took a Sidewinder out armed with an interdictor and two mining lances to annoy the ganker and keep them busy from bothering other people. Sidewinder is basically zero cost and firing on them with mining lasers just shows a great amount of disrespect for them.

I imagine the landing gear will look like the type 8 gear, industrial, considering they share an industrial style. Not sure why you think they will be like the Mandalay?
Because of the hatches. In my first post on the topic I said "assuming these are ..." but I don't see any other spots where landing gear hatches would go. The Mandalay hatches we see in the screenshots are nicely placed on 4 corners on the underside of the Type-11, so it's very likely these are it.

I don't think the Type-8 / Type-9 square type of legs would even fit those hatches, you need a larger assembly for it to work. These hatches are long and narrow.

I just don't want the Type-11 to look like it skipped leg day.

My initial comment in this thread was how the folding side engines look like the bottom edges when rotated could be the landing gear, like seaplane floats. Maybe there isn't a front foot?

Edit......back on topic...
If it's going to be a dedicated mining ship I personally think it needs a generous amount of hardpoints to encompass All the mining tools, plus a couple of extra slots for some type of defensive weapons. A 'reasonable' cargo capacity (500t?) and a larger refinery without skimping on cargo, and once again  ...an MB4 planet auto mining machine! 🤪

Jack :)
if FD were worried about unbalancing the game it could come with a built in refinery or other mining equipment....... Whilst i do like my T10 miner and in a way would be a little sorry to see both of my large Type 9 (/10) hulls replaced it would be cool to have a dedicated large mining ship rather than just speccing out a multirole as best as possible.

defo +1 on the MB4 mining machine... as well as a new mining SLF but this may be expecting too much. time will tell.

edit blimey so many posts.. i didnt realise. i guess i missed a live stream reveal then!.

This is how people get into trouble. xD

Frontier holds up a brick, everyone can see it's a brick, but for some reason, the forum fervently believes it's not a brick, and then will get very upset when it turns out, yes, it was indeed a brick - how very dare they!

Every time.
But come on, if it WERE for salvage, they wouldnt just say that. They would say it's mining related and just let us stew and speculate about it. But if it were just for like, mining asteroids faster, or taking the place of that missile thing- wouldnt they just tell us that? Why wait? Just be like, "yeah it's just a big mining laser nothing special".

I dont know who this is really for though if it's a medium ship. What nobody ever said ever: 'i wish i could return to a station and come back here more frequently'
I say it! I'm so glad this is a medium ship. When you're trading, twice the cargo capacity simply means twice the profit for the same activity. When you're mining, twice the cargo capacity means you have to spend almost twice as long on your play session to actually use that benefit. But you're always paying for it, usually in a ship that's slower and less manoeuvrable.

My laser miner is a Corsair that carries 192t, and by the time I fill up I'm feeling about done, either with the play session entirely or with that activity for the moment. What I love about that ship is I can then go and do some intense pirate-baiting/bounty hunting for a few minutes before selling what I've mined.

Maybe it's just a large mining laser and the Prospector has a distributor draw reduction for it that allows it to be used on a medium ship. Then people who want a large ship for laser mining can pick a Cutter, Anaconda or T-10. And maybe we're lucky and get an abrasion blaster SLF. And if we're really lucky we get a seismic charge SLF.
