Ehhhm... it is.

I started playing Elite 40 years ago.

Yes, wired ships 'n all, but Elite it was - with a same core idea and basic name as this one.
At this point in time there is no direct competitor that provides most of that which ED does.

There are other space themed games, and a perpetual Alpha scam (that does look incredibly pretty for screenshots!) that is trying to be everything and failing in all of it...

But, even regular players may become disillusioned with ED for whatever reason, whenever I get a bit jaded I stop and play Fallout 3 or 4 for a while, then come back with interest once more.

And yes, I played elite on the BBC, from release day, although missed the interim games because work was interfering with play for some years.

It feeds into the following:

  • Gives players spending money on PCMKII to exercise its benefits immediately.
  • Gives players considering the PCMKII a quantifiable observation of what the PCMKII's haulage benefits are.
  • Gives players interested in hauling a currently unobtainable set of modules that furthers the PCMKII's benefits (as well as other ships).
  • Feeds in a significant credit faucet for the upcoming Vanguards update.
    • I expect significant costs standing those up in any meaningful way.
  • Slows colony construction a good deal since cargo throughput is a shared statistic between both of those goals.
  • By extension with the credit faucet, gives people the significant opportunity to earn enough for their own fleet carriers, accelerating future colonization efforts.
The goal at it's base is a very standard "deliver x goods", but feeds into many other areas of the game.
So, nothing new in game. it's just marketing for the pre sales for PC.

Get your Stanley cups here i guess :/

Can we get it to 30,000?

C'mon people, activate all your alts and bring them to deliver 1 tone!
On the contrary, I have yet to bring in my main account for a basic “I want the racks” (cargo racks) contribution, while my alt is sitting in the 75% marker. With it to be seen if I got to swing around again after ~5 Panther deliveries.

Ah I didn't realise we talk about franchises now. And I also didn't realise OG Elite is still actively supported, which was the point I responded to (and that you're conveniently ignoring).

Either way, Super Mario might have a word then. But let's leave it at that this derail has gone far enough. Haul away!

Hmm, now I updated the Epic launcher, jumped my Alt 11 jumps to Minerva and put one T9 load in the CG.

During that, I bit the bullet and finally got Odyssey for my alt for those sweet new ships.
Guess I need a C MkV as secondary.

sigh Spend a relative lot of money this year for a dead game

You're not getting it - Elite, the core idea from 1984, still lives in this game in execution and the title. So it's 40+ years, which is very special when it comes to longevity.
Haul away!

How odd, folk hauled more in their Cutters / T9's each, on average, than the average are doing in a CG being lambasted as P2W... Some forum members are not going to like that particular statistic!
Well, I had to haul in my cutter for my alt, as I'm not buying the PC for him. I had to haul 40% more than my main cmdr. Whoever says this isn't pay to advantage are lying or deluding themselves. Period.

As I have said, I see it as an advantage, not P2W. What is "winning" has been discussed, and it varies from person to person. I play using the ships I want to use to achieve the winning goals I set myself.

Of course it is an advantage, but is it winning?
There was someone talking in group chat while I was doing a few runs with an alt yesterday saying all of his group are in the top 25%, and they are all uning Type 8's to haul.
The advantage is to be able to shift more in a given time, or do less to haul to a target.

Those with Cutters / T9's have an advantage over T8 or less, T8 has an advantage over every other Medium ship, etc. etc...

What are the odds that the 1st CG following the release of the T11 is going to be a mining one, and the same 'advantage' will be gained by whatever its exclusive ability is?

I bought the PC II for my most junior alt - the biggest ship he could fly is the T9, and I won't wish that upon myself. He also only has a single engineer unlocked, no mats worth talking about and very few credits (neglected over the last year, so only had a few hours of play )
Was able to fit the CG reward pre-engineered SCO FSD, but no engineering otherwise. But he did have enough Arghs from my initial purchase for him to buy the standard version...

Say what you like about the prevailing circumstances but, fundamentally, at most CGs, a handful of deliveries (either cargo or combat bonds) will see you comfortably into the top 50% and if you continue to participate you're likely to find yourself well into the top 25%.

Question, here, is why this CG is attracting players and compelling them to compete for higher placings?
Is it for the magical cargo racks?
Is it because a lot of people have a shiny new PC2 to play with?
Is it because there's an opportunity to earn a heap of credits selling stuff that's subsequently going to bought (for quarter of the cost) to build Colonisation assets?

Interesting situation.
