Imperial and Federation Ranking System Re-Work

I do believe the addition of the Panther Clipper has completely eliminated the need to do these rankings. I for one will be selling my Cutters and Corvettes. I believe that these rankings are essential to gameplay. It creates content. Maybe you folks can re-work the ranking system to involve some more beneficial rewards. Or just add 2 new rewards for instance pre-engineered cargo racks at King and Admiral ranks, even though it's a grind it wouldn't be an utterly useless system that has gone by the wayside due to new ships if its abandoned.

And that would be a mistake, especially for Corvettes. Vettes and Cutters still have their roles, they are good ships.

Panther just obliterated all as a heavy station-to-carrier-to-construction hauler. Took some shine from the Cutter there, but haven't touched the Vette.

The point I'm trying to make is that something should be added to King and Admiral ranks to make it worthwhile to do the ranking system. A carrot at the end of the stick

An actual game loop would be a start.... but honestly, with PP2 the way it is, ranks should just be ripped out and the whole rank-locked ship thing retired.

Failing that, actually fleshing out game loops around the Superpowers rather than the Powers would be the way forward.

Superpowers certainly need some sort of BGS gameplay / consequences based on %. Just making them exclusionary to each other would be a start, although its probably too late for that.

I like idea of having some content locked behind imperial and federal rank system so I'm against removing "lock" on imperial cutter along with any other imperial/federal ships.
If someone doesn't want to use Cutter or any other imperial/federal ship there are alternatives so no one is being forced into grinding rank.

I also think imperials will behave like imperials and release ship that will outshine panther clipper someday... maybe entirely different ship class that would use remote station access and automated drone to move passengers/freight between station and ship.

I mean, it's where FD dropped the ball hard right?

Their plan was for people to not care about the Factions in isolation, and instead care about the Superpowers... then proceeded to include literally no content for Superpowers besides... oh... work for factions enough and "woo get a promotion that means nothing". PP2 missed a trick to fix that too.

But a ship alone isn't content. In FE2/FFE days it was access to different missions, higher pay... it also excluded you from similar perks in the other Superpower spaces.

Using the mercenary naval ranks exclusively as an elaborate gating to fly certain ships and access other systems that are otherwise indistinct from any other system is, well, dumb.

Yes, sadly. I could say that in a more rational ED Superpowers would be Powerplay, but just between four antagonists (Imp, Fed, Alliance and indy) and that the choice was a hard choice between being truly neutral or being all in for one power alone, and from that access to locked modules between superpowers is done.

The issue is that some powers in the galaxy have a military force for protection of their interests. Makes sense. Thugs use violence to take stuff, so in defense, some use violence as a response. So we have military ships and ranks. I think the ranking up takes too much effort. I'd vote for toning it down a bit.

BUT...we are talking ships that are locked, ships that are used by a military. Those ships should only be used by military personnel. Can a civilian buy and use a nuclear aircraft carrier? Of course not. You just don't put current hardware on the open market for your enemy to buy. So, it seems to me that those certain ships should be locked in a certain way relating to what the player does.

I do courier missions for Federation rank, and only when I have nothing else to do. It takes a lot of missions! The amount needed needs to be tweaked down. The issue is I'm not aligned with the Federation, I'm independent. I guess I'm a civilian private contractor, but should I be able to use the ships the military uses? No, not if I'm not a member of the Federation as a pilot.

Therefore, I can see it as work as a contrator using my own equipment for certain pay, but certain ships would only be available to those who are members of a group's military. You leave the military, you lose the ship. But, you get certain benefits as an "active duty" military member that a civilian contractor wouldn't get.

No need to get rid of ships, for the most part. Maybe tweak how they are used.

There are many other possibilities from perk of having high(est) power rank.
The things that come to my mind atm are:
1. Top priority while docking/undocking in power owned stations along with lowest priority in hostile power owned station (VIP treatment and anti-VIP treatment).
2. Simple power specific paint for ship(s) or other livery features (such as rank crest that can be placed in cockpit).
3. Small luxurious shuttle (think of it as a VIP car) with short jump range and no weapon slots, built-in 1 person luxury cabin and two seated cockpit with ability to work as APEX shuttle (a highest ranking official should have a personal pilot).
