I am angry!

I was flying to a station with a big investment to sell, request docking rights and the auto-docking kicked in. Halfway during the docking I got a "Loitering" warning but I thought it was a mistake and within 30 seconds the auto-dock must be docked by now. Well.. the 30 sec went over and I wasn't docked. I was inside the station and it began to fire at me and the auto-dock disengaged because I was under attack.. 5 secs later my ship was destroyed.. I am very angry.. I just lost all my credits because "loitering" is punishable by death! Common.. give me a fine or something.. but this is stupid!!

Always remember that you can take over from the DC, just add a little power and it will disengage.

What silly is handing your ship over to the lousy auto pilot.

Bad luck, that sucks, look at it more like auto-co-pilot. I may let it try and dock , but I'm the pilot.

I have tried one a few times but I see it more like an in game pet than a useful mod.
You can get another trade run done in the time it takes to dock.

It's not the docking computer, I had the same thing happen to me yesterday when I was docking manually. I left the station, was still cleared to dock, went back in and got the warning again. It is possible to get out without getting destroyed.

What silly is bashing someone for using a feature of the game and expecting it to work the way it's intended to (putting your ship down safely).
It's clear that:
1. Features that do not work properly need fixing by the devs. Players abandoning said features is not a solution.
2. Maybe you really should get fined first instead of being killed instantly. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
3. Bashing players with legit concerns while turning a blind eye to stuff that still isn't in the game or doesn't work correctly is not going to help the game, the players or Frontier in the long run. Also, it makes you look like a fanboy.

I understand the frustration, really :)

But think about someone pulling someone's fingernails by trying to prevent him from docking by loitering his pad? Still sry for your loss, but I'm glad loiterers are removed, like it is announced through the stations speakers.

This issue isn't really the docking computer, it works fine. The problem is the traffic collision detection, it's rare but can sometimes stop to allow a ship to pass, if it stops over a pad you should take over.

I understand, what I tried to describe was the necessity of the deadly force used when a pad it loitered, regardless the reason. :) The reason for OP to start this thread.

Always remember that the Elite universe is dystopic. Life is not valued very highly, probably because humanity must number in the trillions, spread across the galaxy. The result is that death is almost a default punishment for many things we would not regard as very serious. I used to think this was inaccurate, that increased human life-span (which must be a reality by 3300) would lead to greater care over potential loss of life, but the monolithic society and its power blocs override such considerations. Concern for life, which is so much a part of our society, has gone by the board, submerged beneath the overwhelming corporate (Federation) and patrician (Imperial) interests.

That's why I'm favouring the Alliance, although the penalties will be just as severe in an Alliance station.

Agree 100%. I sold my docking computer 3 betas ago and have manually docked since. Made me better pilot, but not a solution.

I assume you've submitted a ticket. I've yet to get into gamma as I'm away this weekend but it certainly sounds like we've got lots of issues to report before launch.

I only have 1 hand I can use and it's not steady, so the DC is a major tool in my ships, not had one fail yet but I would expect it to work.

There is something not quite right about the loitering warnings. I've picked up quite a few fines where I've been trying to exit a station in a Type 6, but an NPC is blocking the port, or doing all manner of weird acrobatics. Then I've got no choice but to stop and wait, but get a warning and a fine!!
