The more people, the more toxic it gets

its amazing, isnt it? it doesnt matter what you look at, the more people are in it, the more horrible and toxic it gets. look at the forums now and 2 months ago. cant we have some sort of an IQ gate in the future so that if you dont pass the test you arent allowed to puchase the product/ get in a certain area / use something? like on everything. (food excluded ofcourse)

the world would be so much better.

anyway, apart from that, loving this gamma release FD, and it blows my mind to think of what will it be like when we get planetary landings.

Yeah I'm not sure where all the negativity is coming from. It's been apparent through the Beta stages, mainly revolving around content. I'm not sure why some people think that a pre-release will have full content or no bugs - I have to admit that the attitudes have befuzzles me a little bit!
-
The obvious angst issues about offline play aside, I think some people feel aggrieved that there's no way to be 'King of the Castle' in this game i.e. it inherently balances out in favour of everyone and keeps everything on a largely even keel, which is as it should be e.g. a skilled trader can more than hold their own against an inexperienced pirate with the right set-up.
-
As it stands, the game looks and plays great, and there's a lot more to come. I have no doubt that there are some professional troublemakers on here who'd be complaining if David turned up at their door with a life-sized platinum Cobra present!!

Do you think posts like that makes the forums less toxic, or more so?

maybe it comes from the fact that the game sucks by any modern standards, not those from 1984?

it isnt elitist because you can always improve your knowledge. not necessarily IQ, but i guess you could pass with knowledge too.

but thanks for the wise words mister >.>

On the plus side, the people ingame are usually very nice. And that's what matters the most to me. Also, as a rule of thumb I'm now putting any recently registered account that has never posted anything productive (whether it's criticism or not) on ignore. It works wonders! There's lots of great *critical* posts with reasoning and suggestions for improvements, not just praise mind you. Put the trolls on ignore and they're gone. There's plenty of forum accounts that are actively engaged in trying to paint the game in a bad light, justified or not. And I'd rather read genuine criticisms that can help make things better rather than posts from people who seem to smell a chance to hurt ED.

I wish I was just paranoid ;)

Back in alpha and beta people were hopeful, and gave FD the benefit of doubt.
Currently people see the reality as it is, no magical internal builds where everything was rainbows and sunshine.

People aren't asking for theme parks, or CoD in space, or whatever 'derogatory' term people wish to use to display their discontent of other franchises.
People want a more meaningful ways to interact with the world FD have created.
And they want more ways to interact with each other.

The game servers and further development won't be funded by wishful thinking alone.

Yes, the posts with titles beginning "Need help with..." and "How do I..." are being drowned out by the posts with titles beginning (and sometimes ending) with "I am angry".

The posts offering helpful feedback are slowly being drowned out by, well, see some earlier abusive responses here in this thread... if the mods haven't killed them with fire, already. ;)

what is it always with this game that people are excited about things that are at least 2 years away , but still mention it all the time?

"Hey let´s buy that new Trion MMO releasing next month!"
"Yes I´ve heard they´re planning an expansion in 2018, let´s buy it NOW"

It's fair to say this game has a steep learning curve if you've never played, and the elitist attitude, "you're too stupid to get it so don't play" only serves to make it worse.

You guys need to accept that there are all breeds of players, all levels of experience and noobs have a right to be confused - this game has little to no hand-holding to teach you to play and no manual.

What do you expect?

Burn the newcomers. Their ideas are those of the devil. Only the pure of bloodline should be allowed to post.

Gamma is great. Unfortunately it appears you are not.

That is correct of course. But first of all, Gamma was a big step in the right directions. More steps are needed of course. I wish they'd give the game more time but eh, that's beating a dead horse by now. For me it's enjoyable as-is already, and the more we get over time the longer the game will live and be successful.

Second of all, no amount of "I wish we'd have X before release" justifies the kinds of posts being made. In this thread alone I've had the joy to block two users for being rude, unhelpful, and generally just the very thing OP is talking about.

And when someone asks why there isn't a quicktime event for docking instead of having to do it manually, then bringing up COD in comparison is justified. Need I remind you of "Press F to pay respects"?

It's this kind of attitude that makes me ashamed to even be playing this game, and considering ditching it.

This game obviously would not benefit from adding social features because you guys don't seem to have any interest in welcoming new players, which is elitist and anti-social.

Have fun in your little bubble.

Have fun not getting the features you want added any time soon due to lack of funding - no new players (and people like you forcing them away) will result in no new funding.

"hurr durr you think killing hitler makes you any better???"

That comparison really doesn't work on any level, but thanks for trying and for answering my question at the same time.
Please understand this: Your arrogant, elitist attitude is not helping make anything better, it is part of the problem.

How to improve the place? Be nice. Easy.

What a charming flurry of posts from your good self..

By the way, there's nothing wrong with being critical, but there's more than one way to skin the proverbial cat. See example/s above.
