Super cruise to the stars...

I was wondering if I left the computer running on supercruise long enough I could get to the nearest star without hyper jump. (Best from a system not likely to have interdictions...)

Thats to get to alpha Centauri C (Proxima) . you dont jump there, you slog it in super cruise. .2LY something like an hour to do.

I think, if it is the same system as you, yes
If it is a different system you have to jump in...I tried travelling towards a distant system and after about 90 minutes it didn't look any bigger so game up

there was a discussion about this in beta 3. someone left it overnight to test. You end up technically in the next system as you've covered the distance, but all the planetary assets aren't there, and your ship nav still thinks you're in the system you travelled from.

basically, the way the game loads is through hyperspace and in/out of station instances

You can't get to another system as the jump is the mechanism that the game uses to load the system data.
If it is a star in the same system then SC is the only way to get there and in a few systems (like Apha Centauri) it takes ages!!
