Got interdicted, then got wanted?

So I got interdicted by another player, an asp with no shields for some reason, eventually took him out with my sidewinder and some minor help from another ship, which I'm amazed I managed, but guess it was because he had no shields. Then I'm wanted by the federation. How come? Any ideas?

AFAIK you are also free to shoot after you successfully scanned him with a Kill Warrant scanner (and he is wanted).

But before that (i.e. either you scanned him with a Kill Warrant Scanner or he hit you first with one of his own shots) you never ever should attack, if you don´t want to get a bounty on your head.

I once got interdicted by AI. The guy circled around me shouting bold phrases, but he didn't attack, the colour which marked him was still orange and not red. If I fired, I'd be the aggressor.
It's a trick, so be wary of not falling into it.

However, there was another situation once. I followed an unknown signal and found an ASP. It immediately attacked me, but I think it didn't actually hit me first. I answered and of course had clean hits. I took it out and upon returning to Dahan I was destroyed.

So if you ask me, it is, or back then during Beta was a flaw in the system, because it seems only being actually hit first makes the attacker the bad guy and your defense justified, while in the real world the one who opens fire, regardless whether you get hit or not, is to be considered the aggressor. Or it was just a bug...

And by the way, if you don't want to risk anything, or have a more aggressive play style, you can deactivate the feature that notifies the authorities about criminal activities against you (and by that your own). But then you might not receive bounties for killing criminals.

The new patch Gamma 1.1 change log says they've add telemetry to interdictions.

That means they are now getting reports/live feedback back to the Developers to discover all the weird occurrences and fix them. Thats good news

You don't need to use a K-warrent scanner, that just determines if the target is wanted in other systems. Just point your ship at the target and your basic sensors will do the job fine.

Something needs to be done because as it stands now, you cannot ever shoot first without potential trouble even against wanted targets. Shooting a wanted ship at a nav beacon all but guarantees you're going to eventually get attacked by the local security vipers.

Yes, but if you normally scan him (and detect he is wanted) you AFAIK still get a bounty if you shoot him. After actively scanning with a Kill Warrant Scanner this AFAIK isn´t the case.

This is also shown when you encounter a wanted ship together with a few system security vessels (you can often ee this setup when examining USS).
At the beginning the System Security Vessels and the Wanted ship don´t shoot at each other.
When you just normally scan the wanted ship (and detect that he is wanted) the System Security Vessels don´t shoot at the wanted ship.
But when you complete an active scan with a Kill Warrant Scanner on the wanted thip, the system security vessels suddenly start firing at the wanted ship ;)

If you normal scan him and wait for "Wanted" to show, you can fire first - I do it all the time and do not get any fines / bounties put on me.

If however, you open even a fraction of a second before it shows - you are the bad guy and will be wanted.

I was thinking of trying a K-Warrant scanner out, but have not gotten around to it yet.

Oh I definitely wait for it to show up wanted, open fire, and instantly all security vessels turn red on radar. There is no fine, no bounty put on me, and I get credit and the bounty if I get the kill. But the stupid security ships will still go nutzoid on me eventually even though I'm not wanted and not charged.

First bounty target after patch 01: I interdict a wanted npc sidewinder and open fire at him. The pilot then send me comms message as if he is an authority vessel, I then get a bounty on me.

Something is bugged here ;)

You mention another ship. I wager you hit the security vessel (other ship) ... I've had that happen too. Quite annoying when they come in. I'll be especially mad the day they steal my kill too!

I just was interdicted as well and shot my foe immediately after he was shown as wanted ( while he happily shot at me in the meantime ). Still got a fine for shooting him. Maybe there's a new bug, like this isn't logged fast enough ?

I will try to verify this.

Second bounty target: Interdict a wanted Lakon and open fire. Everything works as normal, hmm.

edit:Third target downed without insidents. Couldn't replicate bug. Time for bed, damned job! ;)

I'm apparantly unfriendly with the Federation now, after saving one of their crappy little fighters from a Python. Talk about ungrateful. Think I hurt the little guys ego.

Never shoot first. Just strafe left right up down until they fires and then you go all out on them.

ALWAYS SHOOT FIRST if you're interdicted by a human player. First 5 seconds can make the tremendous difference not only in ship damage, but also as the psych attack. Those who tell you to wait until you get shot ... have no clue about pvp.

P.S.: if you're in combat capable ship of course.

I confirm this
