Hey Elite community! I need some help with my USB Midi device.

Hey everyone,
I have a small problem here. I have a Traktor Kontrol F1. This thing has knobs, sliders and a 4x4 Grid of Pads which you can colorcode through the software. So this would be a perfect addition to my Elite setup, since i could need more buttons next to my throttle. So i googled around and found Bome's Midi Controller Classic. A free tool that reads MIDI signals and converts it keyboard presses. Pretty cool.

So i started to map some stuff for it, but sadly this doesnt work in elite. I first tested if its working at all, so i mapped the keystrokes to a specific button press and tested it on notepad. No problem. Even the Hotkeys for my winamp work, when Elite is running and winamp is playing in the background.

So... what is it? Is Elite simply refusing simulated keystrokes? Is there an alternative? Or will i never get this idea to work?

greetings
seb

P.S.: I hope i posted this in the right forum. :S

Make sure your game and ED is running as administrator - it might help. The system you're using obviously isn't a full keyboard mimic, but some how is directly inputting to the program, and it may not be able to access all programs that are running and windows does sandbox some programs.

Good luck.

Sadly this had no effect.

So basicly what Bome's Midi Translator does is to convert the midi signal you are sending in to a keyboard keystroke or Key down and Key up event. so its not a real keyboard. But as is said in the original post. It works for Winamp and other programs.

Sure it might work fine for windows based programs, but it depends entirely how it sends the event.

For example, Voice Attack takes voice commands and mimics key presses, it has two ways of doing it, one of them is via directx, which naturally works fine for games that use directx hooks, like ED.
I can't recall what API the other method accesses, but basically this is your problem is how the event is being triggered. If both the program and the game is being run as an administrator, the other idea I have is maybe run ED in windowed mode? It might take the input then.

Otherwise this program sadly just won't interface with everything.

Good call on that. Bome probably wont use that API. Is there any way to monitor this in some way?

Well, i have checked the Pro Version of Bome's Midi Translator, which has a DirectX overhaul in one update. Works with that. Time to spend 60 Euros.

Glad I could be of help! Too bad it's pricey, you should take a picture of what you setup and share it, would be cool to see.

Before spending 60 quid, try this software;

http://midi-yoke.software.informer.com/

I used it a good while ago and I think it can route midi signals to wherever you want.
I can't quite remember if you need to use Joy2Key as well. Sorry I can't give you better instructions as I've forgotten, but I reckon it's worth tinkering with for an hour.
Let me know how you get on

Man, everytime i see MIDI controllers i wish you could run them as game controllers. So many buttons, knobs and sliders on them!

Unfortunately, the installer doesnt work. :( Everytime i try to install it, it aborts the installation and tells me i should restart the installer.

Windows 8 problem maybe?
Sorry bud as I said it's been an age since I used it...
Best of luck!

This is the software's official site, which doesn't have 8 listed, looks quite old
