Tried and failed to smuggle stolen cargo into a station ... help?

For me it is silent running every time and as has been said here only use systems thet you need an upgraded life support can give you 20+ mins of air which will save a bit more heat. Even with the changes since that vid was done you can still collect from right outside a station and get away.

Running away from scans? It screams guilty doesn't it? If you ask me the security forces should open fire immediately if somebody runs from scans. Try running away from cops if they ask your ID.

Silent running into station? How did they give you permission to land if they have no lock on you? It like an airport gives permission to a phantom to use one of its strips. Silent running should be used only to sneak into a station not to dock into one.

And then where do you land if you have 'sneaked' into a station? I silent run into and out of stations when running illegal goods, works perfectly. If you want to suspend belief look at this way, docking requests are like ATC, they don't care what you have onboard, cargo is dealt with by customs and the local authority. As long as you get past the feds you are home free.

Clearly if you sneak into a station you are there for nefarious reasons. Not for landing you are there for other reasons. That is my point.

Yeees. Local authority doesn't answer in any way to federal authorities.

The justice system is stupid. For murdering military and police personnel I only get a fine. But for trying to smuggle 1 ton of goods it is a death sentence regardless whether you carry innocents onboard.

There is no suspension of belief. The space station is full of floating destroyed ships.

If you cannot be tracked no docking should be allowed. Besides customs should be done on station not in space.

Well, you could be required to request docking while visible. In addition, communicating an ID and docking request doesn't need one to be trackable.

Think like a passcard to enter a door, anyone can use it, the device doesn't track the person. As you can see, traffic in stations in relatively unmanaged, so why track anyone except objects violating
passways?

There could be a number of reasons your ship isn't trackable to, like maybe you are avoiding a pirate who is waiting to scan you to chase you when you leave or to see if you're carrying cargo they want.
Think real life, if a cop can see you have something illicit on you, they can arrest you. However, they cannot stop you because you're wearing clothes and investigate what you're hiding unless they have reason / suspicion.

First thing, saying customs should be done on station... According to who? you I guess. This is a fictional game set in the future, It's safe to say that if customs had the ability to scan aircraft's cargo holds enroute, each country we fly over would be blasting us with radiation as they scan every aircraft that passes it's airspace.

If you have no suspension of belief then that is your issue, once again, it is a fictional game set in the future.

Silent running appears to be a completely legal device on all our ships, if you use your 'imagination' it can have a fair few uses aside from just illegal smuggling. Privacy (transporting VIP's in and out of stations for example, hauling highly valuable cargo (safety from potential criminals)

Also who say's you cannot be tracked when running silent? Docking request could be just like FANS or ACARS, having your cargo hold scanned would be completely differant technology.

Anyway, I do agree about the strange legal system, murder a few NPC's and get 24 hours to pay a fine, hover over a landing pad and it's instant death :/
