Having being respawned in Aiabiko after the wipe, seemingly by instinct I started about getting my space truck in order to do some truckin. I did this for a night, made a bit of coin and upgraded my sidie with a B2 FSD and a nice set of A2 Thrusters, some mediocre G1 gimballed pulse laser, with a Basic Discovery Scanner and a B1 fuel scoop.
Aiabiko seemed to be quite busy for a trucker to get good jobs, plus with another possible wipe coming I wasnt all that keen on making a pile of virtual money for it to be wiped out over night. So I figured I have a 13.28ly jump range, the galaxy is open to be explored, where is somewhere I can go? Sol? everyone is doing that... Pleiades... let's go see if there is untold riches there or aliens or something. So I look it up and its 380ly away that's roughly 28 jumps, that's doable in a couple of nights? Yes it is...
Not without peril or difficulty though I might add.
First things first, it might be 380ly as the crow flies but its most likely more than that in reality, turns out it is. With a small jump range you can't expect to just fly in a b line for your target, you need to slither your way through the galaxy, very carefully at some points. I had to navigate carefully through the Arietis Sector a wilderness of brown dwarfs with no stations, even the red dwarfs and white stars I could fuel scoop from like a scavenging dog were few and far between. But once I reached the Hyades sector I could relax a little bit more with fuel, but still not giving me any stations, I hope it's not like this when I finally reach the Pleiades.
Well, my hopes were crushed. I am currently in the Pleiades and theres nothing here, not even NPC ships, blue green stars look pretty cool but not a single station, haven't seen one for 15 odd jumps or more.
A bit of a buff to the galaxy map for navigation would be nice, set destination and have systems in range along the route automatically selected to jump to when arriving at a system (or at the very least highlighted). But even with the galaxy map in its basic form it is definitely possible to navigate large distances even without the need for stations and long distance exploration can be done in a sidewinder, although I wouldn't recommend it, an Asp would be a much better ship.
