Make a donation to a profit based company? What a strange idea. Especially one the size of FD, has some have already pointed out.

I certainly hope (as in, I'm sure of it) that FD has a stronger business plan than one that would rely on charity.

And no matter how many times you repeat it, Elite is a game, not in the shareware/freeware category. One that is supposed to make some profits for their maker.

If you want to help in that field, have you considered a donation to Space Engine, for example? http://en.spaceengine.org/
It's completely free. And it needs your help ;)

As it was pointed above just buy a copy of game and give it your friend or to a stranger. There is a box copy with minimum qty of 20. Repeat. It doesn't limit anything. Stop trying to squeeze some sense where it is none.

See (a) and (d), thanks.

Shok.

No, thanks. This is a ridicules idea. A developer needs to keep developing and finding ways to make people invest in their product. This is now done via cosmetic things you can get from the store or other fan merchandise.

Well, I think a donation button is a great idea from my perspective and here's why.

a) I don't want the inconvenience of 'having' to browse a store and perhaps buy something I do not want in order to fund it.
b) If I'm pressed for time, a donation button saves me time.
c) If I had no interest in playing Elite Dangerous but liked the ideas and goals it offers. I can fund it without using the store.
d) being told to use the store and buy for 'others' things doesn't help, and just limits the amount. A donation button offers the chance of unlimited funding.

Shok.

I'm confused so let me answer these matters point by point:

a) You want to donate something and make an impact (so I'm guessing not a few cents/dollars) and you dont want the inconvenience of having to think about it for the 2 mins it takes to find something on the storefront?
b) Who donates money on a tight schedule? Man I have to make this donation in the next 5 mins or all is lost
c) Buy the stuff and never play/use it ... although I'm again not sure who donates money to something they have no interest in (I can see not playing it yet but the shirts either?)
d) If you really want to offer such a large amount that the store limits you then call them up directly via support and I'm sure someone will contact you.
At the opposite end If you're really wanting to donate a smaller ammount than the smallest package (which is 1.75$ right now I think) why are you donating?

An additional thought: buying copies of the game for your friends (or strangers) is probably better for Frontier and the game than donating the money, since those people may then buy extra stuff, tell their friends about the game, etc.

Just had an insidious thought ... have all the people that want to donate money buy copies of the game and post the details on the RSI forums for Star Citizen in the Elite Dangerous section.. that would be hilarious.

Voted No.
.
FDEV is a successful company who don't need 'Donate' buttons on their website giving the impression to every visitor that they need donations and charity... People who wish to donate more than they have can, as suggested numerous times, buy skins from the store which have a zero production cost or as also suggested, buy their friends a digital copy of E: D generating more income from more sales of skins, keyrings, t shirts, etc.

I don't think there was ever any intention of P2W items in the cash shop, only fear and uncertainty from the community. The worst of which was probably the credits for cash thing. But it would be worth addressing the whole issue of P2W in the first place. Win what exactly? If I came in on day 1, spent £30 for a metric ton of credits and bought a big ship......what have I won exactly? Not a lot as it goes. Sure, my e-peen has got a tiny bit larger and good lord that's a good thing but other than that I haven't ruined anyone else's enjoyment of the game but have in a very real way damaged my own enjoyment of the game.

Were they to add things like complete offline support, timecontrol, load/save features, free to zoom and rotate 3rd person camera , I'd probably toss £1000 at them , but alas ....that would break their vision for the game

As it stands we're getting a game that leaves me with a bitter aftertaste, with few of the features I had hoped for

People can give more by buying vanity items. It would be better to have a roadmap so we know what it'll be spent on.

Did FD ask us? Did they ever mention to have p2w items? A business doesn't need dontations, if yes the failed hard and don't deserve it anyway.

Only those against the idea of a donation button and would never donate anyway, are pushing this view of 'failure' and various other analogies to stiffle popular support for the idea or fobbing us off with 'use the store'.

Once again, if you like something. Support and fund it. More ways are better than just a store.

Shok.

Can I have a donate button linked to my personal account? How cool would it be to pack up work and play ED all day....:)

I voted "no" not because I don't want FD to get more support but I think It just wouldn't feel right and It would be strange to see for new guests visiting the site.

If I want to support FD more I buy items from the store... skin packs etc( I have aready done it in the "past") or you can buy more copies of the boxed game. So I think a donate button is not needed we have plenty of options to support FD financially if we would like to.

edit: About the subscription... I wouldn't mind if there would be a "VIP" membership option with additional ingame features/benefits like in many other F2P B2P games so giving more option for those who want to support the game for a longer period.
