What I have seen so far

No doubt that this will be a great game to play. But I do want to know about hiring NPC to fly your ships to move cargo and to protect your assets. With 4 billion Stars out there I pretty sure that people will want to have a planet or two to colonise and to run and or space stations to own.

So far Eve never lived up to my expectations what so ever due to the poor economy and no supply and demand, infrastructure or expenses. Most games of this Genre. The only one that does has been the X Series been able to hire crew and captains in the newest version to fly your ships around.

I am sure that I will not find a human player to haul my cargo around for six months a year making me money going back and forth between systems and hoping to be attack by pirates so they don't get bored.

Another thing will be a fleet to command A carrier task force consisting of a CV, Three Cruisers, 5 destroyers and 2 Supply vessels to protect a planet or your space stations. Anyone who thinks one ship can defend your planet and assets good luck to them but there may be that one time that there will be that 1 ship or 10 ships to many. Eve has this problem.

I think for what you want to make this game as big as it is and freedom you want for players I hope this gets everyone thinking. I would like to own a transport corporation with a few human players on contracts and a few NPC doing the hard work. Or Defending my colony from the Borg (always get humans players wanting to be Borg).

#1: I highly doubt where going to see NPC's which you can give orders to at any point soon
#2: Have you actually played eve? It's entirely driven by supply and demand.

P.S. X rebirth was a travesty...

I fear you may be looking at the wrong game here.
The emphasis is on what you yourself are doing as a pilot, not on large scale empire building or management.
That said there are plans for hiring crew for the larger ships and wingmen for protection. There might be some limited empire building later on but that is not the focus of things at all at the moment and is likely a long way out from release if ever.

I think this is a great idea, have +1 rep. It would initiate a new strategic element to the game and could explore a whole new multi-player dynamic which would influence more co-operative play - the gathering of resources necessary to build stations, starting economic initiatives (mining, trade, etc) and planning the policing of said system to ensure its survival. This is something that would definitely add to the ambitious nature of the game and give players something more than just the accumulation of money to strive for. However, I can not see it being implemented any time soon unfortunately as it would depend on the further success of the game.

David Braben has alluded to the possibility of new stations being set-up in systems players have 'discovered' but this would depend on the subsequent amount of interest from other players to necessitate the building of a station.

P.s. I think that FD would be worried about the possibility of systems turning into 'Lord of the Flies' scenarios.

I thought this was going to be thread containing a Blade Runner reference....

To the point at hand!
There's probably going to be NPC's you can hire to help protect you whilst flying expensive cargo across the galaxy yourself etc but reading FD replies to similar topics I'm under the impression they want this game to remain one where you're predominately flying your own ship rather than pouring over spread sheets like a logistics manager so I doubt you'll see the kind of thing you're hinting at.

Ha! :) I wonder what Roy Batty would say about Elite? I've seen anaconda's on fire under the armpit of Tau Ceti, that sort of thing?

I understand what you are saying about the boring logistical side of it but surely they would be able to make a human friendly way of organising things that would not be a chore. Worth some thought any way. The thing is, for Elite to have the longevity I really hope they think about things that would really make this game revolutionary, like the implementation of the above idea for example. As much fun as it is in the cockpit, FD are going to have think outside of it at some stage(I know they are thinking hard about FPS but so are a dozen other games), they should not limit themselves to the genre (fingers crossed for a huge amount of investment).
