The thing is, it's not even going to have the same appeal to newcomers - only us oldskool would even understand its significance. Can't we make it an 'anniversary year' thing, rather than just a month? Rewarding players for simply having slightly more pocket money is discriminating against us lower-class riff raff. Sniff.
It is unfortunate that you did not have the money on-hand to take advantage of the Wireframe paint job while it was available. Personally I'd really love to have access to the "Founder's World" in-game so that I could visit the Jameson Memorial. I missed that boat. Does that mean FD owes it to me to make that available now that I have the extra cash to spend?
Of course not.
Frontier Developments has been rewarding players for spending their hard earned cash since the kickstarter. Just because I missed funding the Kickstarter and didn't have the money available to fund the Kickstarter at the time doesn't mean that the perks that were offered during the Kickstarter should be offered again.
And it also doesn't mean that a limited edition item should be made available again.
I did purchase the Wireframe skin. On the last day it was available. It was horribly overpriced and if I had been told that it would be made available again at an unspecified future date... I wouldn't have bought it. I would have waited. The whole point of offering something as a "limited edition" is to raise its perceived value. If they offer the Limited Edition paint job again... then they'll never be able to market anything as "Limited Edition" in the future because they will have lost their credibility.
Complaining about "discrimination" because you missed the original sale for whatever reason is just silly. The whole point of selling it as a "Limited Edition" was to create a form of discrimination between those who have the paint job and those who don't.
Personally, I'd be okay with allowing anyone who had purchased the game prior to October 1st having access to buy the skin at its original price. My whole rational for purchasing the skin was so that new players down the road would see me in it and know that I was beta backer on sight. Frontier would be shooting themselves in the foot doing so however. They offer these things for sale to generate revenue that they need to fund their projects and pay their employees. If I know that I can wait to buy a thing... then I probably will. No hurry. No hurry might mean that Frontier has to lay-off one of its programmers because they didn't meet their funding for that month.
