[CHAT]Elite Dangerous: Dictation for Chat box

Thanks! Will try! although VA author is working on a "dictate" command :3
It does work. something like this should be integrated in the game if they're serious about VR :)

I manage to find a way to write inside the chat box using the speech recognition features on your smartphone.

Maybe you already know about it, I didn't find in the forum, but someone might find it useful. I immediately apologize for my English and the lack of editing:D:D

Elite: Dangerous: Androids are here to help. Voice to Chat.[Wifi Mouse]

HOW TO VIDEO FOR SYNC

I've been looking for something like this.
Good video. No worries about your English, its better than my Russian!
The process seems a little 'cumbersome', but perhaps worth a try.
I was hoping that VA would get it working soon, but I don't know that they're putting much effort into it. When I asked VA (Gary?) about 3 months ago he said it was on 'the list' but that it wasn't a priority.

For kicks, I just did another Google search on the subject and found this: LINK

Dragon isn't cheap, but sometimes 'you get what you pay for', ya know?

I'm thinking of trying it out.

Free to try Dragon, but to expensive. I understand if you work Offline.
I found this and looked for something like this ,because in this way you have the Google database all for you. Then I won't be surprised if it works also with Russian and other languages.
When we play we are online then why not use the web fully.
My desktop is wired to the router and Phone via wifi everything works.
You don't activate other voice recognition softwares on your PC that might go in conflict with VA.
The Google voice database is always updating and it's free.
This is just the basic/first thing I found, nice thing in Android that there might be other ways and solutions.

I ordered Dragon Home v12 from Ebay for $16 USD.

It should arrive next week.
I'll update if/when I can get it to work.

Wish me luck!

I'm using Dragon Professional for dictation in the chat boxes. Works like a charm! Expensive as heck, but I had some issues with voice attack not detecting the right words (more simple voice recognition algorithms). Unfortunately only Dragon Pro allows commands at the same level of complexity as VA. Ideally, I would just use a cheap Dragon (dictation only) combined with VA, but I had trouble getting them to cooperate. I've had Dragon Pro for little over two months now, and it does exactly what I want it to in the ship.

The greatest test is trying to say in the chatbox: How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood.

It hit it spot on.

I know that Google voice is always updating, and with smartphone tests that woodchuck word is always used, then google might manage to write is down also in braille. Better test is to just dictate random words with no sense of continuity and see how it reacts.
Also for the comands I don't know if it's possible to "Push" words to the app, that could be a nice feature. After we add Tasker and never know what can be possible.

Yeah, actually due to the heuristic approach to Google Voice, combined with the power of Google's massive server parks, I do expect it to be linguistically better than Dragon in the long term. And Google is a much larger company, thus having the resources. But at the moment, Google Voice doesn't impress me as much as Dragon. I do expect it to impress me in the long run though. Just not yet. :)

Dragon handles random words without any context or meaning very well by the way.

Dragon has three modes that you can shift between.
Normal Mode (dictation + commands + spelling, it determines what you want based on context) I say "Switch to normal mode" to activate.
Spelling Mode (spelling only, allows me to spell specific star names in the galaxy map using radio phonetics) I say "Switch to Spelling mode" to activate.
Command Mode (only commands, I haven't seen the need for this yet) You say "Switch to Command mode"

I usually am in Normal Mode, and only go to Spelling Mode when I want to type in a star name in the map.

Has anyone tried using Dragon (or alternatives) for dictation while running ED?
Ideally I would like to manage a journal via voice while using the Rift. "Captains Log, stardate 3325, found an asteriod full of ancient whisky." :)

I saw a few people recommending Dragon already, sadly I am not prepared to pay that kind of money for a tool I will only use occassionally in a video game :)

But other people reported Dragon working perfectly fine, they were very impressed with it AFAIR.

I am sure it is a great piece of software and that it would work great with the chat box and system search dialog. What I am not sure about however is whether it would be possible to dictate to and have readback from a text document in the background. I am concerned notepad or whatever you ask Dragon to open and dictate into would steal focus from ED...?
If Dragon and whatever it controls (notepad, word) could stay in the background, then it would work as a journal until we hopefully get that in ED. Even a notedpad in game would be better. Not to start that discussion again, but I cannot understand why some form of journaling was not included in the game....

So, anyway: Dragon + notepad in background with ED in the foreground with the Rift on = possible, good solution for taking notes? Anyone tried it?

I've never used it, so I have no idea whether it changes focus to the app it uses or whether you can make it work in the backround, sorry.

As for the ingame journal, something like that is planned (as per the DDA and IIRC the option to take your own notes is there). Hopefully FDEV will look into this after the release.

Yes, I use it to dictate to my spread sheets and logs while i fly. I am waiting to set it up with the game after the 16th.

Dragon is a powerful specialized speech recognition software used mainly by those who are experimenting, or who wish to control their PCs, such as the software on them, web activity, emails , the other group who use it are those creaters and thinkers actively using it for the next evolution in technology, with devices that are controlled by voice such as the i.amPULS, the smart watch.

Really voice attack is all gamers need for Elite Dangerous, but for those thinking out the box and see the potential of what it can do besides gaming, then Dragon is only the software that can do it, hence the price.

I was lucky to get a copy years ago when it was more than 50% lower than the cost today. You can get them cheaper on ebay.

This is interesting. How exactly does this work? You use ED with the rift and have excel open in the background? You use Dragon to dictate into excel while still flying actively in ED, in other words Dragon or Excel do not steal focus away from ED?

I have no problem with the price of Dragon, *if* it solves the current problem in the right way. :)

It would be nice if someone would come out with something free or cheap, that can work on any location in the world and provide same functions of VA.
I don't know for win8 but for Win7 if you are not having the possibility to activate the Voice Recognition, also VA won't work.

Some one talked about "Command" in Dragon, it means that it can perform some kind of automated actions like VA?

It seems to me that VA could implement this.
Perhaps if we all contacted VA and expressed our interest they would increase the priority of this feature.
I doubt they'd be able to make it as powerful as DNS or Google simply becuase they wouldn't have the resources to put towards it for such a niche group of users, but at least it would be a single seemless application.

Dragon NS does have the ability to program custom voice commands and keyboard macros, but that feature is only included in the 'Professional' versions of the software. Those versions are hundreds of USD per copy though.... too rich for me.

I just received my copy of DragonNS v12 Home this weekend ($16 USD on ebay). I started messing around with it and it seems to play nicely with VA so far. I am able to dictate to notepad and wordpad while VA still operates commands in the background.
I haven't tried it in Elite yet though, that'll be my goal for this week.
.
I am having issues when I add Ventrilo to the mix though. I'm trying to configure mute/mic off/stop listening hot-keys for the three applicaitons and that's when it all comes crumbling down.
If I leave them all 'always on' and passively listening, then it all seems to work fine, but once I try to add a microphone control to one of them everything goes wonkie.
It seems to be a conflict between VA and Ventrilo. I was thinking of booting up TeamSpeak this week and seeing if the conflict continues.

OK, free rep to the first CMDR who is able to confirm that Dragon can dictate to notepad in the background while playing ED, and explain how to set it up. (Yeah, yeah - do not have much else than free rep to offer. ;) )

When I record my scary ingame videos I use Voice Attack to trigger the Recording. Maybe you can bind a key to Dragon and just use VA.

VA has a limit, you migh call me stupid, but i could and I upgraded to Win7Ultimate to enable the voice Recognition, without it doesn't work :(

ehi who said stupid!!!! :D
