Hardware & Technical Thustmaster HOTAS X is DIRT CHEAP right now ($35)

If you have the money definitely go with a better setup like the Saitek X52 Pro, Saitek X-55 or Thrustmaster Warthog. But if you need a joystick, this price is the lowest you will ever see for a fantastic setup. Grab it fast - $35. At this price even if you're not sure how you want to play the game (gamepad vs. mouse/keyboard) you might as well grab it.

I had this joy and hated it.

It works well enough, but you'll get back ache if you hold you hands out in front of you for any length of time. You can separate the throttle and the stick but they're joined buy a wire that's less than a keyboard width in length. So it just a ball-ache to use. I'd recommend a straight joystick over this, I sold mine to get a Logitech 3d Pro.

You just get a small lapdesk and sticky velcro this to it. No backache, no strain, no reach whatsoever and solid as a brick.

For the money the T.Flight is a great little HOTAS.

I flew with it for 5 months before buying an X52 Pro with no regrets at all!

I have this joystick and wont be upgrading it. The main reason I prefer it to the others is the rocker switch on the throttle for the rudder/yaw. I was thinking of upgrading to the X52 pro until I found out I'd need to buy separate rudder pedals.

Really good value for money, and it is solid. I previously had the force feedback version of this stick which was terrible. The whole thing went saggy, and buttons broke, but this newer version is as good as it was when I bought it 2-3 years ago. I've used it a lot as well, so it's well built.

I bought this joystick just for Elite and it's excellent for the price. It's sturdy and I like how you can use any button as a modifier to increase the number of functions.

I have just recently bought the Hotas X and I'm very happy with it so far. Could have more buttons but it's still enough. I will have to research a little on how to use the preset button and so.

The Hotas feels really sturdy and made of very good quality, to me it doesn't feel cheaply made at all.

The cable between the two parts is long enough for my Keyboard, which is standard size, (a Fund KB-460) to fit in between with about 2cm of space left. I also tuck my Tablet behind my Keyboard and voilà, perfect cockpit setup ;-)

You can twist the X52 or X52Pro joystick for rudder/yaw. No separate pedals needed. Thrustmaster Warthog needs pedals though.
