Do I book the 16th off?

Is there any news as to whether the release time is going to be a midnight on the 15th/16th or sometime during the day on the 16th? I'm in the rare position of being allowed holiday with the kids not around, and was going to take that day if I could!

I wouldn't. 17th or 18th if anything. Launch days are a recipe for frustration as both excitement levels and game instability are at a peak.

Yes I forsee a terrible bout of man - flu on the 17th * cough*. As for the 16th, I may just keep a watching brief till the evening!

Yes, do the next day if you want to spend the day playing ;)
Release is usually late, ie just before midnight.

Im with Alric. In addition, the money you just made working the 16th can be used for beers and crisps (cheese and onion) while enjoying the game on the 17th/ trying to DL the game on the 17th!

Win win

I hear that man-flu can last several days. . .
Unfortunately 'er indoors is only working mornings that week and will scupper plans of playing longevity if I take the day(s) off.

Probably won't happen till 11:59pm on the 16th anyway, then the fun starts, multiple threads posted all on the same issues. I can't wait....yawn...

Murphy's Law:
You don't book off launch day. Launch day goes without a hitch and the internet is full of happy people and videos telling you how awesome everything is.
You book off launch day. There's a delay in launch until 11pm and then a four hour download. Then when you get on at 5am on the 17th, there's a game-crashing bug.

I wouldn't. Wanting to play online games on release-days is just murder. Wait two days and you have a better chance on enjoying yourself.

I always thought that was "Sod's law" :) after a quick Google I find that "Murphy's law" is the American equivalent, learn something new every day :) I don't know why but Robocop sprung to mind with Murphys law, or maybe some kind of detective TV series...hmmmm

A pessimist is an optimist but with experience. :)

Hmn indeed, but I've just realised that it's the only day I can book off where the kids are at playgroup and I'll get some peace n quiet! I'm fairly optimistic that they'll hit their mark on release day to be honest, but maybe I'll have a good book on standby :)

I had to take my leave so booked off every Friday until new year as well as having the two weeks over xmas off.

Release day is always hit and miss....

Don't.

Just don't.

Chances are that all you will do is having neither access to the game nor the forums, and clicking the launcher over and over again.
Like when 1.02 went live.

If you want to take time off, you should choose the 19th.
No need to rush off in a hurry.

Do you guys not have gamma access?

As it stands now there has not been an announced wipe for launch as they don't want to have one unless needed.. So gamma currently is release.. If that stays that way then why need off at all?

Just saying..

I would expect this release to actually be on the 16th by about lunch time.
People these days expect games to be released so they can play on the release date - don't do that and you're going to have a lot of angry customers.

I agree though, being online only I don't expect the servers to cope or for us to be able to play until the 17th when things die down a bit.

They could do what Civ:Beyond Earth did and release a day early!
That way it will start working on the release date.. ;)
