Elite / Frontier Odd that more posts on Frontier/FFE forum

LOL I totally agree - I don't think there is going to be any 'cartooning' of Elite. I have more than enough faith in Frontier and Davids visualisation of what E4 could and should be.
I do however agree that there was a loss in direction with FFE over FE2 - not only with the cockpit design but also with the ship design.
among my hopes for elite4, are that...

i just hope our anticipation and expectations arent heaping too much pressure on dave and his team. i mean, i hope they realise how much there's a huge fanbase been sat on the edge of their seats for soooo many years, but i hope that doesnt put the kind of pressure on them that can interfere with the creative/developement process.
look at the first three... they were created without the pressure. they were created (i pressume) out of fun and love.
i hope that same kind of passion shines through in 4. and then some.
and yeah... rather than a cartooning (similarly like what seems to be taking place, though now tamed down after objections, with diablo2 to diablo3), thru the passage of time and the age-ing insanity and loss of taste as mentioned in the previous example (jar jar)... i hope it's more of a fine whisky, or to make yet another example in this jumbled sentence english teachers would shoot me for... dukenukems... duke 3d was the kind of leap above the previous games i'm hoping for... and what will that be like in the present times? ..... i suppose those of us not employed by frontier can but only have our say and await patiently.... or impatiently... hehe, it'll get here at the same pace.

Not sure if this has been touched on before, but I think Elite IV will need to be a David Braben product. What I mean by that is that other FD games can be just that - FD games - but to make E4 Elite you need DB directing things. Ok, you could say Ian Bell is required as well, but that seems unlikely

Heh - I don't think there is any fear that E4 won't start with "A DAVID BRABEN GAME". As for Ian Bell - that water is so far under the bridge and David has more than proven that he is more than capable of creating a great game without Ians input. I don't think that there is any question that David and the Frontier team are more than enough capable and have the necessary knowledge and experience to produce a brilliant game. The industry has moved on a very long way since the 80's.
I think someone hit it on the head when they said 'as long as no one else makes it first'. With Infinity being worked on and all that I have read it will do basically what all the Elite games did. The I-Novae engine is stunning in what it can do. Yes I know Infinity is at the least 2 more years away, but Elite 4 would be that far away if more if no work has been started yet.
I doubt that Elite 4 would be a standalone game it will more than likely be an MMO. I personally think in the near future the success of the upcoming games JGE, BP, STO and a few other games will be a nice gauge on whether to invest the time and money into a Elite 4 project. Because in the end it's all about $$$.
Yes. The Elite name is well known but to people our age My 15yr old doesn't know what Elite is and if I showed him the original or some remakes he would probably think boring. So Elite as a game is for a selected group of gamers and it needs to be done right to bring in a new fanboys to the game, and they need to keep the old that kept us old timers chatting about a 25yr old game

I don't think so, all the information we've been able to coax out of Frontier Developments so far hints that the game will follow a single player model with perhaps a strong multiplayer aspect. I think that would be a sensible decision and would certainly make Elite IV much more console friendly.
If that is the case then Frontier don't have to worry about competition from games such as Infinity, Jumpgate and Black Prophecy. As a single player game it will most likely still be purchased by players who've already committed a monthly fee to a subscription mmo.
I'm really hoping we get some preview concept art for Elite IV tomorrow.

I must admit that I've had a few over the years where I've seen a work-in-progress at the development house. Strangely it looked like FFE each time, but with incomplete modern graphics. Funny how the mind pulls things together like that. Like they were updating that and building on to it. I was part of group of visitors or something. Funnily enough David Braben was present after a time discussing what was going in to the game and I'm remembering the bit with the new 3D galaxy model being worked on. The last part I was being taken in to a medium-sized white or cream room with a large TV monitor that was showcasing some completed graphics although I cant' for the life of me get at what was shown memory-wise. There was a good atmosphere there and everyone was so positive and happy talking about it.
I woke up from each one a very disappointed and angry man the next day. How dare my unconscious tease me like that !.

What I think is so positive is the increase in activity on this forum as soon as anything happens with regard to Elite. Before that, there were often just a handful of posts per day, some days none at all.
There's been a corresponding increase in the number of hits for my website as well
Make no mistake; people still love Elite and Frontier, and want more!
