For a full featured music player in game ::::

I have been looking for a while to get a decent music player in game, so rather than just play/pause/skip I can actually build my playlists etc and do everything I need without fully coming out of ED. Finally came across a solution that works well last night. So for those that are interested:

This uses the STEAM browser (although I guess you could use Overwolf if it works for you), WinAMP and the AjaxAMP plugin.

INSTRUCTIONS::

So firstly, make sure you have added Elite to STEAM so that you can run it through that, and install WinAMP if you haven't already got it. Then you need to get AjaxAMP:

http://ajaxamp.com/download

Install this, then run WinAMP and go into Options / AjaxAMP Preferences / Library and add the directory where your music library sits.

Leave WinAMP running and go into Elite through STEAM, then when you are ready go into the overlay (shift tab) and hit the "Web Browser" button at the bottom.

If you haven't changed any of the default settings then you should be able to point the browser at:

http://127.0.0.1:5151

and up comes your music player. Which you can then shift-tab in and out of.

Hope that's of use !!

I was actually thinking about that for a while now, I just make playlists on YouTube, and leave it in the background, but I really do wish they would add a music player within the game, maybe even incorporate it into the UI, ED should go immersion all the way.

This is awesome thank you! Maybe someone can help with what I'm looking for? I'm running VoiceAttack and I'd like to be able to start Winamp with a set playlist before starting up Elite, and then using voice commands to send keypresses to Winamp to instruct it to skip tracks, stop start etc. I want to do it this way through VoiceAttack so that I can not only have handsfree control, but also so that I can create some custom computer voice responses to playback randomly as well, ie "Good music choice commander", "I love this track" "Oh no, not that again" etc etc, and just get creative with it. :)

Can anyone help?

i use Music Bee player (it's free and good, bit like winamp) on the PC and Music Bee remote (also free, there's a trend here) on an android tablet over the wifi, so I can search my music library, set up playlists using the tablet etc, without alt-tabbing out of the game. Works pretty good. Would work with most phones I reckon, not sure if you have to be rooted.

I guess you could use a tablet to control this as well, since it is just a web page although I also run Farcebook as well, which I prefer a real keyboard for .. .. ;-)

I wish they would as well, but most ingame players - including Overwolf's & Steam's are a bit rubbish (actually those two are complete ****) compared to what you can do through a WinAMP & AjaxAMP (plus Music Bee and probably others) solution.

You know steam has its own music player built in right?

No, I didn't know that.
thanks now I do, so now I go look and see how it is to use : )
oh only support mp3?
I have a feeling I wont be able to use it to listen to online radio steams/ I might be wrong.

Yes, tried it and it is either rubbish or it's features are very well hidden. This works great, drag and drop to create your own playlists, work through library etc .. .. .. Overwolf also has WinAMP controls, but again they suck.

Edit: Just tried STEAM again, got it working better after it taking 10 minutes to NOT scan all of my music - but using AjaxAMP is much faster, much more intuitive - probably depends on the style of interface you are looking for.... STEAM's just sucks - then again WinAMP has had the best (in my opinion at least) since forever....

unlikely they would team up with spotify i spose... can do it on my ipad and bose soundlink mini but wd be cool to have it in game

I simply mapped a few switches on my Hotas to play/pause, next/previous, vol+/vol- Winamp, but the above hint is certainly useful (not for me - wont work in a rift, but +rep anyway)
