Oh god, that was stupid !

I just hauled 27tons (the entire available supply) of Eranin Pearl Whiskey all the way across to Lave - something like 20 jumps for my ship and about 30mins of playing time. I was probably looking at a 1000% profit - something like 200kCr maybe ?

Entered Lave station, found my pad - 44. Descended, and hit the landing gear button.

Only, I didn't - I hit the boost button by mistake. A couple of panic stricken seconds later and me and my Cobra were nothing more than smoking, whisky flavoured scrap floating around the back end of Lave station.

Noooooooooooo !

I think I need to remap my boost button and train myself to be more careful.

That'll teach you to open one of the cargo containers and drink that extra strong Eranin Pearl Whiskey.

Think it's happened to all of us at some point buddy! Major learning experience :) Btw, where do you pick up those long distance missions?

Flight Assist Off = Z, Set Speed to 0% = X. That's a disaster waiting to happen and left me on 12% hull once.

I had mined 6t of Palladium, 1t of silver and another of gold last night when I accidentally shot an AI miner with my mining laser. 300cr bounty and instant death followed as he and his two mates leathered me before I could get out of there.

Did the same thing once in Prem Beta with a full load of something expensive (can't actually remember, I think it was so traumatic I have subconsciously blocked it out)

I now use a two button combo for boost, kind of a safety switch.

Live and learn, we've all had moments like that, haha. After the initial shock of it, I usually see the funny side and laugh that it can and will happen. No more hand holding, a breath of fresh air.

Shok.

The most stupid thing I did was back in beta 3, I was in an ASP that I had invested around 11 million into. I took a full hold of cargo, but didn't have the credits to cover insurance (even with a loan) if I destroyed the ship. On the way out of the station, I stacked it into a type 9, and had no choice but to be back in a free sidey again. Made it to a cobra again but stayed put until the wipe for gamma.

I've not done this yet. I fully expect to at some point.
I did get so distracted sightseeing at one point though that I forgot to request docking permission - that rapidly turned bad when I couldn't back out quickly enough.. Oops.

Fews weeks ago, i have lost my t6 with 106 gold tons inside, start again with 1000cr....
yesterday, full of superconductor, jetisson all by mistake

Cry. ... LOL .... I love this game <3

This time it wasn't the cost of that cargo that hurt - it was only about 30kCr - it was the imminent payoff and the huge potential profit that I just blew. I've been struggling to make decent profits in Gamma, and this was my first attempt at the luxury long range commodities market.

It's especially annoying as it's the second time this weekend I've stacked that Cobra. Apart from these two self-inflicted incidents I've barely even damaged it and have not been defeated in combat. The first incident, I was just about to leave the station port when something big entered (it can be hard to see approaching ships in the DK2), and I panicked again, put in too much vertical thrust and flew straight into the wall.

This is still one of my fave videos. Hope it helps you smile :)

I almost did it last night in trying to escape a scan on hauling 10 tonnes of stolen Palladium last night. Boosted on going into a space station and rammed into back of it whilst madly trying to reverse. Left myself on 12% hull and somewhat battered pride.

Can't you set an override in the control scheme for landings, disabling boost? Or maybe it's just disabled when landing gears are deployed?

There are in effect two sets of flight controls one for normal flight and one for docking/landing that you can set.

Did it today, 44t of gold that I piad for, then on the entrance I was speeding, at some moment I was so focused on not missing the gate that I forgot to request docking. Countdown, started, in panic I turned around trying to leave the station, hit boost and missed the gate. Barely had CRs to get my ship back...

I've never figured out the landing over-rides. I just drop my gear as I come in through the slot, or just after if my pad is at the back of the station.
Yes, I've died to boosting in the station. I'm pretty sure we all have :)

^ I have many times, especially when showing off to the n00bs. :D

So with the wisdom of hindsight we can tell all newcomers: Never trust the default keybindings! Play inside a tutorial and re-bind keys until you feel comfortable with them. Set "dangerous" keys where they can't be pressed by accident. Memorize keys so well that when the real deal comes, you'll know your way around your keyboard (or controller) without succumbing to "which does what"-panic.
