What does the game offer to compensate for the tunnel vision problem?

I am referring to using only 1 monitor to play a first person game; you simply cannot see the same FOV as you would normally see irl. This is why other games offers 3rd and 1st perspective view.

I am assuming the game supports multiple monitors for better field of view? Considering the eyes easily sees 160 degrees and a single monitor only provides between 45 to 90 degrees of simulated in-game view, I would hope so.

So my question is, does the game also supports abnormal resolutions; I have a single 4k monitor and was hoping to run it at some odd resolution such as 3840 x 1080, yes, I would have to deal with black bars top and bottom, but at least it would mimic what our eyes could see.

On a side note, the reason I don't buy multiple monitors is because of the darn bezel, it is not called immersion if your FOV is separated by a non in-game object. 1 large high resolution monitor is a lot more pleasant to the eye.

Anyone knows if the FOV can be increased?

FOV is the only thing preventing me of buying this game, so the answer is quite important to me. Thanks. (I normally play games in 3rd perspective, so the FOV doesn't really bother me in other games, but this one only gives you first perspective.)

P.S.: If I was an owl, I would expect games to support 360 degrees field of view. :p

The bezels issue is only a problem for a few minutes. Your wetware rapidly learns to cancel it out, your brain does some pretty funky things with visuals :)

There is a FOV option in the Graphics settings. I've not touched it but it's there. Might be what you're looking for.

Actually, I'd check some threads here about head tracking devices... (and you tube!)
Easily the most immersive addition without going the Occulus Rift VR strap on goggles/screen.
I've got a single 23" screen but with the addition of my EDtracker (non commercial semi DIY gyroscope/accelerometer), I can quickly look around.
Tracking a ship whilst dog fighting is much simpler. Looking for in-system stellar parallax during exploration is much simpler.

Anyone played with the feature Scimon is referring about? As for headgear, well, some concerns says it is not good for your vision over time. It is bad enough we sit too close to our monitors, not trying to impede my eye sight even more with head eye gear. Besides, I want to be able to game until I die from old age. Thank you very much :)

The FOV in this game is quite good. The slider in the options needs actual values but I'd guess its around 110° at maximum.

C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Graphics\ open 'settings' file in notepad

changed mine from default 60.000000 to <FOV>80.000000</FOV> think max is 200.000000 not sure

open 'displaysettings' file in notepad and change <ScreenWidth>1920</ScreenWidth>
<ScreenHeight>1080</ScreenHeight> to the settings you want

Same as my other flight sims (which I always fly 1st person, except for the occasional screenshot), I play with a Track IR 5. No pb with the FOV (which can be increased as stated above.)

Almost forgot to ask. Anyone got some screenshot of a 16:9 monitor with FOV stretched? I googled it, but didn't find many examples. And youtube won't work at the office :(

When the game is in motion the bezels of a multi-screen setup become like the frames of a large window. With head tracking, you just look around them and only notice them when you think about them, or if you get some light behind them and notice a gap.

If you dont have an Oculus Rift? Im gonna tear you apart! I can see all around me in 360, in 3d, anytime I want. And they say 3p is a cheat? BWAHAHAA

I maxed out the FOV setting and it works well enough on my 27". I can see every display to the front and really only use Headlook to enjoy the scenery in SC.
I'd doubtless have a better experience with TrackIR or similar, though. I'd hope this Christmas would mean I can speak from experience about Occulus Rift as well, but I've been a very bad boy this year... :(

As mentioned earlier, the highest FOV that you can select in game is 60 (which is absurd!). You can change it to something higher by editing the Settings.xml file in C:\Users\[USER NAME]\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Graphics.

It makes the game feel a lot better, less nauseous, and the ships a lot "bigger." However the only problem I can see is that at higher FOV settings the menu's/radar become difficult to read. I have mine set at 75, which I feel is a good balance.

I am not worried about the details on the screen, the beauty of 4K is having 4 times more pixels than full HD, so I should be just fine there. But my experience has thought me that higher FOV means more object on screen, meaning, lower FPS, thankfully got a high end spec computer to go with that 4K monitor :)
