And well many people now, say that the game lacks content and depth. In a sense fortunately Frontier can concentrate on the online mode only, to enhance the game
Or they could review their decision (as they said they would.. or at least could I forget the exact phrase). During that review they might just realise that an offline server/mode with modding support would unlock the enormous potential of the army of modders out there who would busy themselves filling the vast universe with interesting and varied content while at the same time branching the gameplay out in numerous ways that some groups of players will find a massive boost to their own style of play.
Frankly I don't see how Frontier could possibly hope to produce enough content themselves (mostly for free) to do the job but giving the community the ability to mod it in for offline they could then cherry pick the best ideas and content for inclusion in the online side. Also the one size fits all restriction of the online game is by its nature going to make the game less appealing to people who find they just don't fit with it. Offline (even with no or modest modding) could provide difficulty sliders, economy options (static, tough, generous, etc) interdiction/danger options and so on.
At the same time they would create a new revenue stream for themselves in the form of semi regular paid DLCs for the offline version that include missions and storyline components from the online side.
Offline really would be a win for Frontier a win for offline players and a win for online players and I for one will keep arguing its case until either Frontier do it, I stop playing ED or someone/group in the community makes an unofficial one.
