Best Cobra Weapon Combo

Anybody got any thoughts on best weapon combination for the Cobra. Tried two small Beams which track fast, but do not seem to work best with the two main weapons when in same fire group? (I had them as Beam lasers.) Should I have the small hard points in different fire groups from main hardpoints? Has anybody tried Rail/Multicannon/Beam combos? Or should I put missiles on? Any thoughts/ideas gratefully considered and tried in Gamma!:D

I'm currently running with two fixed overcharged pulse lasers on the top mounts (group 1) and two gimbled multi-cannons on the bottom mounts (group 2).

Though the overcharged lasers do munch through quite a bit of power. Also with the gimbles underneath, they have a restricted (forward/above) view. So I usually use the lasers first, and then when at close quarters bank/climb slightly and use the cannons.

Ideally I'd prefer gimbals on top and fixed (looking forward) on the bottom. Though because the mounts underneath are smaller, I don't think the weapons that can be deployed there will be as powerful. I guess my plan is to try and deplete the shields with the lasers and then do hull damage with the cannons. I might try playing with other laser weapons on top.

I have to use the fixed as the main weapon of choice, as I can't get on with gimbles as the primary.

I've yet to find the best combo for me but currently have gimball beam lasers on top and heat seeker missiles below .

I ran the same in beta 3 but with pulse lasers. Very effective. I haven't tried gimballed beams in gamma but I thought they were pretty useless in beta 3.

Two gimballed pulse lasers in the medium HPs, one turreted beam laser and one mining laser in the small hardpoints.

I don't recommend the turreted beam laser if you fight anything but one on one, it can get you into trouble with multiple opponents.

I chose gimballed because I'm a terrible shot with fixed weapons.

I've not been over-complicating things, two medium pulse, two small pulse, none of which are gimballed. For the budget I'm operating on / the cargo I'm hauling it seems to kill those who don't run away, make some I'd like to kill run away, and isn't enough to get the bullies. But that will come :).

This ^^^ is the correct answer :)

Gimball is not good for those 2 undermounts. Probably better off with fixed since Cobra is maneuverable and there should no problem aiming fixed weaps with it.

On Cobra I mount 2 fixed beam on small mount and 2 gimballed multi-can on med mount.

Beam kills shields faster than burst and also kill small ships like sidewinder and Eagle (and possibly Viper) fast - fast enough that you don't need to waste your multi-can ammo on anything besides larger ships.

Out of curiosity, recall where you picked them up?
I've yet to find any overcharged weapons for sale :)

Don't be tempted to try out the turret burst lasers ... they're really pants - they shoot once and then get bored!!!

2x Gimballed burst lasers (small) 2x multi cannons (med)

This is my preferred load out. Burst lasers are a nice compromise, take shields down more quickly than pulse, but dont overload as easily as beams. The cannons are good against the hull once the shields are down. I use gimballed because I'm just not good at aiming with fixed weapons!

just 4 gimballed multis on mine. I dont really see that much of a impact on getting shields down tbh, and it leaves you with more pips to engines or shields.
I gues it depends with what style or your ships manouverability. I prefer to open up with the multis below 1.5 km, but then they drop shields just as good as a laser.

Also a fun setup is running with 4 gimballed beamlasers.
Very heat and power intensive but if you can adopt to getting close in on your target you can kill most stuff in 2-3 passes. Make sure you bring heatsinks though ;)

As I am living from Bounty hunting, I care about my ammo expenses. My best compromise is 3 gimballed burst lasers and 1 gimballed multicannon. With 3 burst laser you can shoot almost without stop with good power distributor, but not with 4 so that is why this setup.

This is what I run with - you need a decent power plant and especially power distributor though.

Bomber:
2x fixed c2 beams or railguns
2x c1 torpedoes or heatseekers

Classic:
2x gimballed burst or beam c1
2x gimballed mcs c2 or fixed c2 mc

Asymmetric (my favorite:
1x c1 railgun right hp
3x mcs gimballed
