What have you done to prepare for the game

I had an upgrade planned for September anyway, so it coincides nicely, new i7-5930K seems to be running the game well :)

As for what I've done for this game, I spent an afternoon trying to scrape the skanky sticky film off my MS Sidewinder ForceFeedback 2 joystick. It seems they go weird after years of being in a box. Glad it still works though, didn't fancy the expense of a new joystick.

I got a new rig in October, but not exclusively for ED. I did get a HOTAS (I think the last time I used a joystick was on my Amiga) and I've ordered an EDTracker.

the first week of gamma i went to the store and bought a crap ton of food so that i wouldn't have to leave my home for some weeks.

I bought this:
Intel® Core™i7 Six Core Processor i7-5930K (3.5GHz) 15MB Cache
ASUS® X99-S: ATX, HSW-E CPU, USB 3.0, SATA 6 GB/s
16GB KINGSTON HYPER-X PREDATOR QUAD-DDR4 3000MHz X.M.P
4GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 970
1TB 3.5" SATA-III

It arrives today and I can't wait to get my filthy hands on it. Next will be the oculus rift cv1 when it's released.

Shok.

I reset my Alienware M15x to factory settings. Pared down all background processes to bare essentials, updated Windows 7 to current state. Upgraded RAM to 8 GB. Installed Microsoft Security essentials, (I know I know, but it's the least invasive suite I can tolerate) the ONLY exe.s I have on there now see Kerbal Space Program and Elite Dangerous. (I barely touch KSP nowadays since gamma.

But it's all futile really as I literally get about 1 hour every 48 hrs to actually play. And then I have to leave headphones off so I can hear my wee bairn

I got:
- EDTracker
- Thrustmaster Hotas X

Considering:
- Roccat Power Grid
- Voice Attack or Vocals

I'm currently sitting on a really cheap and old Ikea chair. So I'm in the market for a new office chair. I'm thinking about attaching (modding) the Hotas directly to the chair. Can anyone recommend a good office chair? Some info:
- must be available in Germany
- price around 500, not more
- suitable for height of 170cm (that's 5'6)
- adjustable with adjustable armrests
- I do not care for fancy materials or "designer" bonus
- no "racing" chair, no cockpit setup
- I know all about Herman Miller and Steelcase, but they are not well established here and go for 1400-2000

So basically I'm looking for a quality chair that won't give out after 1 year of use like a cheap Ikea chair would. I'm not interested in the other extreme though - no fancy designer premium chair for 1000.

bought a backlit keyboard, cause i´ll be using joystick+keyboard for controls and this game is to be played in the dark. The rig I have already, not so humble, but not high end either

I got myself some free days off work so I am set until Xmas. More goodies to come to keep me happy. Santa is good this year.

Cheers,
Robin

Spoke to a friend who's interested in buying my account + Collector's box when it arrives

(Other than that, do have the computer to run it, and an old Logitech Flightstick Pro that I used back in the days of SWG : JTL, got the gear ,just can't get into this game, -or- past the lack of pause / load/save/3rd *cam/timecontrol/autopilot/and favourite ships.
Not getting into the reasons past that, it doesn't feel like my favourite game (Frontier) but more like X-wing vs TIE fighter (even the Shield/engine/weapon powerset is borrowed from there)

Wish everyone who can enjoy it will enjoy it

Nothing at all. It turned out that my 5 years old rig is running ED just fine on medium settings, and that KB+mouse combo actually works quite well. If ED keeps my attention long enough, I might consider getting new rig, joystick and (maybe) TrackIR.

Purchased CH Products Fighterstick and Throttle Pro. Spent some time learning how to fly with it and creating my control bindings. All good fun.

* blown the dust away from my CH Combatstick USB
* blown the dust away from CH GAMEPORT Throttle (yeah the one with the PS/2 Keyboard pass through) and CH gameport pedals
** Came to the conclusion that I am missing a game/midi port
** Bought a Gameport2USB adapter
** Bought a cheap Gamepad
*** Dismateled an old CH Stick (you see I love their products) and build from the old stick, the throttle, the Pedals, the cheap gamepad (for the buttons) and the help of the Gameport>USB Adapter an USB Version of the CH chrottle and Pedals, which works very fine
* Took my "Freetrack" device (Cap with LEDs) which never worked well for the 3 LED-setup, found and fixed the error, and pimped it with a ne powersuply (small powerbank, no more cables yeah)
* New Graphic card (ordered)
* New Monitor (ordered)

Thrustmaster HOTAS doodad.

Updated graphics to a nice GTX 770.

Going to have to book some relationship counselling for my husband so he can have a moan about how little is being done around the house. I'll be too busy to attend though ...

Heh, I have 3 kids (youngest is 3), so I feel for ya. But that's where my Grado SR80i headphones are good. They are open backed. Really good quality sound (HiFi aficionados shake their heads when they hear I game with it). And as I said, open backed so the sound leaks out like a sieve but the same applies to external sound... You can hear external sounds like kids crying and get to them before the wife wakes!

My largest purchase was the X52PRO from the flightstore.co.uk for a modest £130 incl del.
I also bought the EDTracker parts which was a massive £13 and is easily the best investment for return on immersion!
I also bought Voice Attack $8 but funnily enough, that's the least used even though I bought a nice voice pack for it (£3.50) which actually was great value as they've done loads more responses and default profiles and quite importantly (since I game in the main bedroom and can't actually vocalize commands) lots of key bindings so I can hear nice Computer voice responses to the things ED didn't give a voice response to!

Some other threads have mentioned the improvement in sound with a discrete sound card so considering a further modest £25 on some ASUS Xonar DG which should work well with the Grados as it has an onboard headphone amplifier.
I'm also considering a third screen but with the EDTracker, I'm not sure that's required!

I still haven't tried hooking the PC up to the JVC HD projector which we watch movies on the 84" screen with.... Perhaps one weekend when the whole family is asleep.

Oh and whilst kickstarter backers saved about a fiver over the beta buyers, I also prepped by getting a couple of ship options.
So in the end I spent £25 plus extra ship options for £20 and then £15 for beta.

From the posts on this thread and some people I've spoken to, there is so much nostalgia from 1984 and hopes and dreams being carried behind Elite : Dangerous. TBH if we all had just stopped playing the original and started playing this we'd have been absolutely gobsmacked.
