Rare Commodities List!

Not sure where the 'personal supply' idea comes from but the station restocks, whatever commodity is bought , after you have reached another station in the same system OR jumped to another system. The level of restock varies and I'd such the variation represents the i stable supply of such rare commodities

Do you find that the supply varies or is it pretty constant? I.E if I goto Lave for the first time theoretically I should see my maximum "personal supply" right? Or if I come back having not traded in Lave for a few days would the supply be different?

Seems to refresh periodically, some have mentioned a 10 minute timer but not sure if that's accurate. You can buy up however much is there, wait for a bit in-station, and go back to the commodities list after a break to see if there is any more available. If you're the superstitious kind you can try logging out for a few minutes then logging back in again.

Ok heres some info which I hope you find interesting as you level up

My run for the last few days has been Chi Eridani (because there is no wait for supply) to Thrutis - distance 156 ly

Started in a fully upgraded 128t Asp over 10 jumps -

Chi Eridani
LHS 154a
LP 710-47
Tohil
Sheratan
NLTT 7941
Huiche
Elska
Bragpura
Chi Eridani

This has been worth approx 2 Mil cr/trip at about 15 - 20mins or 6 million /hour. Doing this in a lovely maneuverable Asp was a milk run because the jumps could be made quickly

I'm now in a half upgraded type-9 of 456t capacity, doing the same run, but it's taking about 40 minutes (due to the lower jump distance) from Chi with a profit of 7,200,000. And it's challenging to avoid damage which can cost hundreds of thousands. NPC intercepts happen more and if they catch you scooping it can be huge amounts of heat damage. Scooping is necessary to avoid very big fuel costs

Don't just imagine getting a type-9 is going to be pay day. To do useful stuff every important thing must be upgraded. Top engine, fsd, distributor, thrusters etc all cost 16,000,000 each and that doesn't include all the other stuff needed like upgraded cargo, scoop, defences, shield cell etc

I'm posting this so you can assess where you are going. And because filling the hold at Thrutis is really slow. I really need to find another route to a better supplied system than Thrutis. The stuff appears every 10-15 minutes and after 40 minutes I'm only 3/4 full so I have plenty of time to post this. Theres some balance for you

I went afk a few minutes and came back to more with the only station with rare goods I've managed to reach so far.

But I did finally find a C rated FSD for my cobra (can't afford A/B and they're allll over, grr) so much easier to move suddenly!

Made It to Xihe here's the pic of Xihe Biomorphic Companions

We make the most realistic and exclusive animal companions using the latest technology and robotics, better than nature and guaranteed to last. Rigorous testing ensures that all our animals conform to the appropriate legislation on artificial intelligence.

1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

I hope they used better AI for these "Companions" than they do for the docking computers / NPC docking.
The docking AI seems to specialize in injuring human beings and terminating its own existence.

Go to Jaroua instead, it usually stocks around 250 items so you'll have a full hold after one refresh.

Thanks for this! You guys use the galmap for the long jumps? The longer distances fall off the nav panel.

EDIT: Sadly, the return trip doesn't seem to be far enough, the Jaroua Rice doesn't sell well in Chi Eridani

This thread made me come back to Elite Dangerous!! Finally a good reason to travel the Galaxy: visit all places on that list, and finally progress at about the pace it should have been from the start (- well maybe make it 50% slower with RC-trading).

I started one week before gamma, played the first week of gamma like crazy (was home / vacation) with normal commodities trading until I had my ASP.
Then I decided it was too much grind to continue.
Now after like 10 days pause I come back and find out: No wipe!, and: rare commodities make 15 times the money that I had made before per trip (- considering the time it takes to do 9 jumps instead of one, it is probably closer to 10x). Since you don't need a lot of money to start with I could have saved probably 2/3 of the time I needed from Sidewinder to Asp - but that was way too long anyways - if I hadn't had the opportunity to play literally all week long, it would have taken me probably 2-3 weeks I guess.

Tonight with rare commodity trading I was able to work myself up from 400k credits to 21 million in probably 4-5h). I guess there are routes with less than 9 jumps - stopped visiting all the systems on the list after finding a good supply.

I think it is still many dozens hours of gameplay until I have lets say a fully kitted Python etc. - it's not only about buying your ship: you also want the best equipment in the end.

While I see that "real" multiplayer games (with quests and instancing / boss fights, crafting, socialising; or even pure PvP) can be fun for >1000h (- I think I have around 1000h in Planetside 2; and probably double that with WoW from 2005-2007, DAoC 2001?/2002/2003 and maybe LotRO (2009-2012 on and off)).

I have to say I don't expect that from Elite Dangerous anymore! For PvP to be fun I imagine you lose too much (- haven't tried it yet) and you take too long to find anyone.
But a good PvE game it certainly can become (- the last good one I played for half a year was Horizons: Empire of Istaria in 2003)! Lets hope they can accomplish a good pace with the whole story when the game launches.
For a good PvE game we could need a good crafting system! (Just don't make silly mistakes: in EVE they dropped the "Mining Laser 2" Blueprints during an event: then there was a "monopoly" situation, where those who got it would earn so much money, that I quit playing the game after a few weeks (- ok I admit I lost everything to PvP after not paying insurance...).

Sorry for being so much off-topic. But I only wanted to say: if they balance the progress time to make money with the different approaches I'd maybe double the time on trading rare commodities (- seems slightly overpowered now), but make exploring, mining and bounty hunting much faster please.

P.S.: I can probably make more than 5 million per h now, that I no longer have to try out the routes, read the forum, the datasheet / lists etc. on the side. And doing the same run in a hauler is probably a little harder - the 9 jumps I make are with a 24 LY jump range - you'd need 16 jumps if you had only 16 LY jump range for example. Maybe when I'm tired of this route I test the others. (The route I ended with was Chi Eridani to Heike and back - although Heike went below 124t of supply after a few jumps back and forth (- started with 195t, then 183, 146, 119t). Chi Eridani was around 1200t at the beginning and 670t at its "low" - so the stock both about halfed- and after pausing for <2h they where both restocked.)

P.P.S.: there are also singleplayer / sandbox games I sunk hundreds of hours into: Mount & Blade was a time sink - and when I finally got the last village on the map for my Kings empire the game crashed - almost felt like an accomplishment, although some victory screen would have been also nice instead of breaking the game. The other game where I have a few hundreds of hours in is Kerbal Space Program. (I didn't play Minecraft though; and for X: Terran Conflict I found the learning curve / entry too steep: never really played it.)

OMG, 30 seconds later, a refresh, and now this:

This means I've been wasting my time flying further to sell stuff because of a DISPLAY BUG

Yeah, I have been noticing a delay in updating the SELL price sometimes when arriving at a station 150+Ly from purchase point. The sell price doesn't seem to be recalculating immediately. Sometimes it is only a minute or so, sometimes it is a few minutes you have to wait before the sell price is inflated the +15k . Going into other station services or undocking/redocking doesn't seem to make any difference. Even exiting to main menu and restarting doesn't work. You just have to wait. I have ticketed this issue.
Maybe it is because the trip from end-to-end is too fast in my Asp for their recalc code to handle.

...*Heaps of stuff*...

I agree - the rare commodities thing has mixed exploration and trading for me, I try and go between rare-com systems via different routes, and do a bit of exploration on the side. I still dock at stations on the way that look interesting, as I am always on the lookout for black markets. I find that smuggling "found" goods into busy stations is something I quite enjoy...

I'm giving something back, this is the Chi Eridani <-> Jaroua route proposed by Yanaran. However, it's tweaked so that every system is in the nav panel, so no mucking in the galmap. You need 19 LY range laden. Less than 15 minutes door-to-door and don't be dumb like me: remember to wait for the price refresh at the destination.

From https://cmdr.club/routes/ with 19 ly jumprange.

Chi Eridani
(1) LHS 1379 (17.2216 ly)
(2) Kerebaei (13.3210 ly)
(3) Grabi (13.0104 ly)
(4) Negrito (18.9496 ly)
(5) Ankou (18.9257 ly)
(6) Maris (8.7697 ly)
(7) Gambiu (12.5666 ly)
(8) Raidenwitha (17.3053 ly)
(9) Dainayiman (17.2867 ly)
(10) Jaroua (14.2262 ly)

EDIT: Argh, Negrito falls off the list on the way back. Gotta work on this...

Lol, I hope I’ll get a 19ly jump range soon :p Only done a couple of these rare trade runs so far, in a Hauler. Made enough credits to switch to a Cobra but couldn’t find FSD and powerplant upgrades, so I made a rare trade run with a very basic Cobra (sold both lasers to get my jump range to just below 10ly with 18tons of cargo). Took me 36 jumps to get to another station with rare commodities. And still no better FSD

I've seen A3 and B3 FSDs in these stations: Aiabiko (Gooch Terminal), Aiabiko (Jett Ring), Derrim (Nachtigal Hub), Hedetet (Forfait Port), Latucano (Jeury Hub), Vitoa (Mitchell Dock), Xihe (Zhen Dock)
