Noob ratio @ Day 1

Hi,

I'm one of those who just bought the mercenary edition a few days ago without access to the gamma. One of those who might be smashing into one of stations for a few times :p

I just wonder what's the ratio of beta/gamma access pilots to day 1 starters is? Is it true that we'll have systems full of novice pilots? Anyone got any numbers? :) Just curious.

Really looking forward to my first flight (beside the combat demo).

This is not confirmed but one of the popular streamers said that there are somewhere around 150,000 beta/gamma players. I'm sure the pre-order count is high and launch day and the next couple months could see these numbers doubling, tripling, and beyond. Given that there are about 100,000 inhabited systems where players can start (and not everyone plays open-world) there will be plenty of room to still not see anyone. I plan on playing open because I like the element of being with other players.

Hello and Welcome!
.
I don't have global details for you, but I will tell you that I have 2 friends who have recently preordered and will be Noobs on Day 1.
.
So, for my very small sample size I see a 1:2, Veteran : Day1Starter, ratio.
.
.
Cheers,

I wish we had tutorials on docking and other things in the preorder merc download. I understand that solo combat is important, but would like to of seen other tutorials on game play mechanics. From reading the forum posts, I bet my ship will be blown up from parking it wrong. lol.

You should have access to the "single player combat training demo" now or at least Very Soon™; There's also some training videos:

And another…

Whatever you do, make sure you have a good look at the preflight checklist that will pop up (it shows key/control assignments), remember where the directional thrusters are, and most importantly: when you don't know what to do, set throttle to zero.

The docking tutorial takes about 90 seconds to complete. I would suggest you do that first, even if just to make sure all your flight control settings are correct etc.

You new guys are in for a treat.

This game is so hard to put down. One more run, one more good mission offer. Bounty hunting, smuggling, mining, the amazing scenes.

You might find this hard to believe, but you don't want to spoil it with a 'watered-down' experience before release. Half the fun of the game is learning. Taking your time.

I think it's safe to say that most of us are still learning.

That long?!

It only takes half a second to press boost...lol

I've been playing for a good bit now and consider myself a seasoned pilot...but I still make a dumb mistake now and then. For example, I was skirting the edges of populated space in my Cobra and came across some metallic looking planetary rings (System Map didn't say what they were since, I'm guessing, no one has done a surface scan there yet). I parked at a nearby station that carried Sidewinders and almost all of its A class equipment..sweet! Loaded the little guy up with mining lasers and dropped the shields for a refinery. I fly into the rings and start pew pewing the rocks...overheated after 2 seconds, huh? Oh crap, this is a 'planetary ring' (yes the planetary ring type not the asteroid cluster) around a dwarf star...crap, that is cool or hot, whatever! Okay, so I went to the edge of the ring...a little bit cooler, I could run the laser long enough to get some chunks...bertrandite, indium, gallite, more bertrandite...darn this must be a metal rich ring...frustrated, I accidentally hit boost and crashed into an asteroid :( oh well, at least a fully kitted sidewinder is only a few grand in insurance, haha

Okay, that was entirely too long for such an anti-climatic ending, sorry

ANYWHO...I'd imagine, if you are playing open, veterans will be heavily outnumbered by new players...I'm thinking 10 new players for every veteran.

At least it was cheaper than the million credits of cargo + insurance payment I smashed against the letterbox when I had my boost button accident!

Gear down until clear of station now.......

Glad my thrustmaster t16000m is coming on Friday so I can get a few days of practice before blowing up my ship while docking.

I'm considering parking outside a station with some friends and making bets on which of you guys crashes the most spectacular.
