Elite / Frontier Upgrading to larger ship

How do you buy a larger ship. I have a Asp explorer and when I try to buy a puma or panther clipper it takes my credits and tells me I cant sell the ship with occupied. Do I have to trade it for a smaller ship first then get the clipper and hire crew?

Yep, its the passengers you'll have to take them to their destination before you can seel the ship, or wait untill they get annoyed and leave, but that harms your reputation.

Ship upgrades

No passengers showing in the mainifest. Only my crew member and myself here.
Going to stay with the Asp for the moment and try my hand at a few assassinations just for fun

Hello there, whilst looking on your screenshot (Great ship :) ) I saw that in the bottom right hand corner it says you have two cabins occupied. They need to be emptied before you can trade your ship in. Either by transporting them to their destination, or until they get annoyed and leave. Good luck with the assasinations :).

What's probably happened is a bug where you were late in getting to the passenger destination, where they no longer show up in the manifest, but refuse to leave your ship.

The only solution to this, I believe is to get an escape capsule and leave your ship in space, then return to a spaceport. This will leave your ship in space with the disgruntled passengers who don't want to leave your ship. (Let them fly it while you claim the insurance on the "stolen" ship...)

Hey, thanks for the tip. Will try the escape capsule next time I'm playing. This is good because I was getting bored with the same 30 ton of cargo every run.

No worries, sold off all my good stuff, undocked and headed out into the middle of nowhere. Hit the escape pod and left the passengers behind. Got myself an Imperial Trader now and crew.

Having done that and then a few more trading runs I've got another issue where I cant seem to leave the space station at Facece. The ship stops just at the exit and wont go any further. I'm at game save ._86. If I reload the previous saved game and go elsewhere it does the same thing.

Anyone seen this before?

Try checking to see if your fuel tanks empty that's normally the reason, I know from experience :D

Upgrade

The trader cant get anywhere without 30 ton of hydrogen fuel which is there but I'll check the auto-refueller hasn't been damaged. Thanks for the tip.

Whenever you change ships (or engines - ESPECIALLY engines...), always make sure you hit "refuel" before launching.

This issue does sound 100% like a fueling issue...

Don't worry - everyone's had these problems at some point.

Just be glad it's a game and not real life.

Can you imagine how silly you'd look getting your shiny new ship all tuned up and forgetting to fill it up with fuel before getting it moved to the landing pad...?

Ship upgrade.

I've been looking around the Core systems trying to find a Boa freighter with a Class 8 drive or better. Found a Panther clipper at Sol but still no luck with the slightly quicker BOa.

Any tips for me?

So no passengers means no upgrade? Is that right?

No, the previous posters mean that if your ship is carrying passengers, you cannot change/upgrade your ship, until you either complete the mission (drop them off at their destination) or somehow get rid of the passengers.
