Noob question about the game before buying.

Hi

Maybe I looking the wrong place, and this was already answered.

Does this game support single player ? I know I won´t have the same fun, but does it have a single player game like the old one ?

Thank you.

Yes - you don't have to interact with other players - though you do need to have an internet connection.

NO solo is not single player and anyone who tells you so is wrong (Edit and frankly should be ashamed of themselves for deliberately misleading you into buying a game you might not want)

Solo means no other player ships are visible but in every other respect you share the universe with them, they affect commodity prices, they affect faction dominance, they affect what missions are available. All of that all the time when you're playing or not playing. So no there is no single player, only multiplayer non PvP mode. Of course you also must be connected to the internet to play.

If you DO feel like swapping over to open play you can, just go back to main menu and change... no cost or change... so if you WANT to play with human a bit you can.

Just bought the game

About internet connection, thats not the problem.

I mean the game as a single player, AI as enemys, not have to Interact with others players in no way whatsoever.

This is not possible ? if that is the case will need to contact then asp to cancel my order.

Their is a solo mode where you will never meet other players only npcs who also affect the market prices, mining resources and I assume bounty missions, exploration etc. Actual players will affect these things in your universe also but you will never meet them.

In solo mode you could view npcs and players as having exactly the same impact on your game except that you will never meet a real player.

Found some more info on npcs here:

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=7494

Looks like there will be different tiers of npcs Tiers 1 through 3 but it's not clear if these npcs will be doing their own missions, mining, etc. although some of them will be persistent and some of the tier 3 npcs can be promoted to tier 2 and 1 status.

I really have seen other npcs mining and heading towards new stars in an unexplored system so I am presuming they will affect the universe. Rest assured though you will have no direct contact with Real Players on Solo mode, they will just affect market prices, exploration prices and mission types offered at various stages (ie. they could take out a big bounty that then disappears from your mission screen as a mission choice)

Okay, in solo mode you will only ever see and directly interact with NPC ships. BUT you will be indirectly interacting with other players because you share the same universe, so you will see their ships reported in the galnet news traffic reports (This is like a newspaper thing available in stations) and any activities they perform that affect the underlying simulation, like trading or performing missions, exploration, etc, will also affect you because its the same universe. Perhaps most important the universe doesn't stop when you log off, so its quite possible to log off in an empire held system with a great trading route to a near by star and when you log on the system has flipped to Federation and the market has been saturated by players in massive bulk haulers.

So there is AI in the game in solo mode ? I´m retired gamer lol, now I just a casual gamer, so a fully MP game won´t work for me, don´t have time for that anymore.

I think its better to cancel my order for now and wait for more replies and the release of the game to get this answers.

And that living universe will mak very hard for a solo gamer to make Money and progress through the game like you explain in that case.

Just contacted Frontier about my order :(

Don't worry about it being any harder or easier If i understand you correctly you just want to play without direct interation with other players which is what Solo will provide, the economics are effected (market prices for instance) by other players but you will never meet any in solo.

Found this

"OK, so basically there will be a totally disjointed mode, for offline playing; so if I just want to have my single player game, like in Elite, I can have that, and it will not be influenced or influence the persistent universe that I play online"

That would be nice, to have a total off-line mode, just get game updates like new systems, new ships and th option to have the solo modo ligke described in thsi topic, so I have the option to choose.

I Mostly play on weekends, some times not even that, with a live universe expanding changing, after 2, 3 weeks I may save the game in stone age and get back again in Star Trek universe.

A good proportion of those playing Elite Dangerous will be those who played the original, therefore people around 40 years old. Therefore the game needs to (and does) cater for those who only play from time to time. I am in this category, and it works well.

- You can drop in to do a few hours of trading - find a nice group of systems, work out the most profitable commodities, and do a couple of trade runs.
- You can do some exploration - even with the basic sidewinder, you can easily make a few thousand credits in an hour or two of play.
- You can go and complete some missions
- You can go out looking for wanted NPCs and do a little bounty hunting (once your ship and skills are up to this - this is great fun and hugely addictive)
- You can go out and do some mining. If you like that sort of thing.

I tend to do a bit of trading, bounty hunting and some exploration too. Mix it up and the game stays interesting.

Obviously with the release we will get an ongoing story, and I don't think it is clear yet how this will play out for those who aren't playing every night. Again, based on their player demographics, hopefully infrequent players will still be able to get something out of this part of the game.

I think your more likely to find something slightly less dramatic, such as in the price of tea dropping by 40cr per ton

I think the bad feeling in the community about Frontier's decision to drop total offline mode (which can and has been discussed many places but that's not the subject of this thread) has driven some rather misleading responses here.

If you choose to play solo, you will never encounter another human player. Yes, human activities will affect things like market prices, but if offline mode had been included with the game, these fluctuations would have been included (albeit simulated) anyway, meaning that it makes absolutely no difference to the way you play the game.

There is no meaningful way for me, as a player, to say, "well darn, I hate that FelipeV guy so I will ruin his game by doing X in my game".

While it would be technically accurate to say that the actions of other players can influence your game, it would not be accurate to say it would change your solo experience at all in any noticeable way, and I feel like you should not let that affect your buying choice. That said, it is always good advice to wait until games are released before buying, and read or watch a number of reviews, unless you are confident in the product, but personally I hope you will join this community, even if it's just in solo mode, and have the same moments of excitement and pleasure we've all had so far!

What mode are you playing ? the solo mode ?

I´m on that category, I played Elite on a TK90X.

To put everything in a nutshell. You will be playing solo and never meet another player. As to the background simulation (market, politics etc) yes this is affected by player actions, but this is reflected in the game in ways that will not affect you directly except for the fluctuations of market prices. But if players were not causing this fluctuation then the game would have a mechanic to simulate it so it is six of one and half a dozen of the other really.

There are 3 play options:

Open (Other player and you)
Group (You join in a group of other players and they are who you interact with)
Solo (The only difference from Open is the other players can't interact with you)

No matter what you choose there ARE AI driven ships and the AI is a pretty decent fighter if you get in a battle.
All 3 require you be online- There WAS a plan to have a off-line most but they developers couldn't make it so what they wanted so it was dropped.
