Elite: Dangerous Trailer now with added honesty

Some people need to get a sense on humor.

I hope you all aren't the ones posting stuff on youtube defending the game. You just make E: D and every Elite fan look bad, just stop it.

I laughed, the only thing missing was some cheesy elevator music for the real game sections and it would have been perfect.

Kingston, that Anaconda sailed long ago. They can't possibly look worse than the Braben Knights after the offline version was canned.

Dude, I've been locking horns with the zealots since kickstarter. I know all about the defenders of the faith.

I would say that this trailer more accurately portrays the game, and is 100% my experience with it since I started. The most fun I had was leaving the dock, since then it has just been a lonely bore, I was REALLY hoping for some epic dog fights like in previous space games and/or flight sims, I get nothing close to that and it saddens me as even being a pirate is boring, its a logistics game not a combat game, which is what the original trailer depicts. This trailer is more truthful of the stuff that will actually happen in game, long periods of boredom with the occasional fine for half-arsing a dock...

Here is what I see when I play Elite Dangerous...

Just replace the truck with a space brick and the skybox with some nebula...

KEEP ON TRUCKING!

lol.
Very amusing video :D
The outrageously fake flight model in the trailer really deserves the mickey taking out of it.
Fake and Cartoony. I can't for the life of the think why actual footage wasn't used. It certainly seems to be a trailer aimed at a target audience on the other side of the pond.
The ED capital ship trailer was MUCH better imo. Love this original trailer from last year:

I don't think the original trailer is lying, it's just beautifying things and that's ok.

But it is missleading and potentially not attracting players looking for a deep, immersive gameplay which is what makes Elite Dangerous great game.

Kinda shame.

I think the Frontier trailer is absolutely stunning and found it really entertaining but I am also glad that the honest trailer was also made. I'm not being 'Mister Indecisive' here I promise. As cool as it was I didn't think it captured the 'feel' of the game at all. Yes it kind of summed up what the game was about - fighting, mining, fighting, smuggling, fighting and ...er fighting but in the end I think it was very misleading. I wish Frontier had not gone down the cliched 'not actual game footage' path (in very small text) and just created something a bit more imaginative. What was wrong with previous official videos that actually show the beauty and dynamics of the game? Why not make an ensemble of the best player videos instead? I thought the 'honest' video was very funny because it highlights the contrasting pace of the actual game with the trailer. We need this kind of parodying of things we hold dear to make us remember not to take ourselves so damn seriously and smack us out of our commerical day-dreaming.

I also thought the trailer was quite deceiving, giving the impression to less informed gamers that you could walk around, yaw a Cobra in a second, have an external view etc... I realise that they are trying to appeal to a larger gamer demographic but to make it look like some 'Micheal Bay' film, which another poster stated, is a false way of going about it.

I thought we had moved on from the slow motion uncomfortable walk scene (at start of video) - cheese on toast.

Apologies for the long post.

As you pointed out, FDEV wants to attract the action FPS demographic (COD, Battlefield, Planetside fans) but at the same time produce a niche game tailored for a 1984 fringe audience.
Can't have your cake and eat it, they have to make up their minds and get consistent.

I often take a load on in ETS2, great to relax.
Some of the trucks players have made are great. Shame we don't have the option here in ED.:(

Attenttion maker, "Fake" is the way to gonna get attention, looking for more viewers for his "lets plays" and it seems it worked because the other vids where not looked soo often before the "Elite Video" Cheap is the point of getting views for his Youtube Channel.

Look At any other Game Trailer, where do you see any Real Gameplay with HUD and so on?

As misleading as the original trailer may (or may not) be, your video isn't any better. You purposefully chose boring clips of gameplay. I fought an Anaconda with my Eagle, had my canopy blown out into space, 5 minutes of oxygen left and downed the Anaconda with 6% hull, then flew to the nearest space station (without a canopy, meaning i had to land my naked eye). I made it and collected a 10+K Cr bounty.

Elite can be as tense as you want it to be. But of course, using a Hauler to demonstrate the FSD jump sequence or pretending that a station, 2000 ls away, will take for ever to reach (when it's actually in no time, i travelled as much as 150,000 ls in SC) works too, i guess.

No, if i would have to add honesty, i'dd add "SOLO MODE FOOTAGE" and "OPEN IS UNPLAYABLE DUE TO LAG AND DICONNECTS" or "MEANINGFUL CO-OP NOT INCLUDED".

Yes I agree that 'Elite can be as tense as you want it to be' and the video hints at the way you're imagination can run with it but to insert the 'real' action of the game would not contrast (or be as funny) as well with the frenetic action the trailer depicts. I'm afraid the honest segments that you would include would detract from the humour of the 'honest video' and just emphasize the more buggy aspects of the game and invite an even more 'negative' response which you seem to be arguing against in the first place.

True. And don't get me wrong, i enjoyed the video. The first time there's a jump cut from the real trailer to him just sitting in the cockpit made me laugh out loud.

Sorry but I think this video is very biased and not honest at all. It shows the game like It would be all about Supercruising and staring at "dots"... but it is not!
