Please honour Iain M. Banks in E:D

Totally tragic news regarding Iain M Banks. His imagination and wit are unrivalled, and the culture series is without a doubt, one of my favourites. I would love to see him honoured in-game!!

Yes, this man is the person who really got me reading science fiction. Very sad news.

A humorous ship name would be great. Might have to think one up for my own ship ....

I met him at a reading once. His sense of humour is fantastic, he is a great speaker and very funny.

His sense of humour is fantastic...

"As a result, I've withdrawn from all planned public engagements and I've asked my partner Adele if she will do me the honour of becoming my widow (sorry - but we find ghoulish humour helps)."

From his statement - which says much about an author I admire greatly.

+1 to this sentiment. A fantastic man with a fantastic talent.

Sad, sad news indeed. :-(

Not sure about directly honouring people in the game though. If one then why not all the others?

Patrick Moore? Asimov? Clarke? Holdstock? McCaffrey?

That said it would be a nice thing to do. Why not use the pre-existing concept of the Tionisla Orbital Graveyard? A marker for each notable personage.

Yes, some sort of honor seems appropriate. If someone deserves it, it's him. Though I do hope he makes it past the release date of E: D.

maybe a bit early ^^ but sure many commanders will carry the same sentiment. db talked on the ks comments about his friendship? to mr. adams.

sir moore sadly is another one for ED "graveyard"

i tust FD will find ways to incorporate some of the giants of the sci-fi/science/astronomy world

Indeed. Named hulk for each great writer of SciFi who has passed on. And it would avoid need to be ghoulish by making it possible to add another ship when someone passes on.

That said, if we can name our ships, should I ever manage to purchase something really big I shall name it "I'm sorry am I in your way".

Was there going to a 'spaceship graveyard' in the game? If so then having some of the wrecks named after some of the great science and sci-fi people could work:

HMS Patrick Moore, HMS Ian Banks etc (or whatever the Imperial, Federation and Alliance use as titles for their ships)

Really sad news to hear, he has a great imagination and wonderful storyteller from fiction to science fiction.

Perhaps a few fed navy ships named after Culture ships in honour would be good

I support this idea wholeheartedly, and also suggest adding a memorial to Daniel Thomas "Dan" O'Bannon (September 30, 1946 – December 17, 2009) as well.

He was the co-author for the Alien movie and the infamous "Chestburster" scene was inspired by his life with Crohn's Disease.

It would be great honour Iain Banks in the game. Maybe an Imperial capital ship named after one of the Culture ships such as "Size isn't Everything" or "Funny, It Worked Last Time".

He will be remembered in Elite: Dangerous along with other notables in science fiction and space based science.

Having people who are directly (or indirectly) responsible for the genre we enjoy so much, being immortalized in the very environment their works were so influential and descriptive of is poetic.

I have never read his books. But here a idea. Ask permission to have his name in the game as a NPC. Like Affront7 said have a few ships name after ships he wrote into his books.
