What is your highest rank?

So, I'm wondering how fast/slow the progression is on ranks. I'm not aware of any counter like "get this many kills to hit this rank"

I'm mostly peniless and aimless, with combat rating as Novice.

I've mostly been pew pewing stuff in my freagle casually since I found out about no wipe a few days ago. Rank progression seems decently fast at low ranks.

So what rank have you made it to so far already?

10k Credits on Bounty Hunting: Mostly Harmless
200k Credits on Bounty Hunting: Novice

10k Credits on Exploration: Mostly Aimless

The rank is based on credits earned. Smuggling doesn't seem to change anything for ranks (So it's not a real career; especially, it doesn't change your trader rank)

The number of kills, systems explored, etc. doesn't change your rank either

Novice ought to be close to leveling, I think.

Merchant won't go much higher, at least for a while.

Pathinder is what I'm concentrating on, those Advanced Scanner/Detailed Scanners were expensive and I need to pay them off.

Competent (at ~220 bounties turned in)
Broker (at ~34M earned)
Surveyor (at ~300 systems visited)

It's been a while since I got those, mebbe close to Trail Blazer.

I am pretty sure it is actually based off of bounty kills. I was racking up kills and not cashing bounties in and was Competent at around 300 kills or something while still having less than 100k in combat. Money you make from bounties does not add to the stats until you cash them in.

During one hunt today I killed two dozen pirates, no rank-up, flew to the nearest outpost, claimed the bounties, and only then gained the next rank.

So it either is off money earned, or kills are only counted if/when you cash in their bounties.
