Multiplayer not working

I'd be interested to see who else has diffculty playing online with friends?
A friend of mine and myself tried for month, suceeded 2 times several months ago,
but not recently. Both of us have UPNP enabled (what is a strange requirement,
as most other online games can live without it - so yes any other game can be played).

Is there someone willing to join group for testing purposes ?
Or are other experiencing same issues generally?

I'm writing in general, as noone replied in the beta/gamma forum..

Cheers commanders

Right now this game is not much fun to me not being able to play MMO and not having Offline play either.

It would probably help if you mentioned what system you are in .. nobody wants to trek half the way across the galaxy just to test multiplayer with you!

there are no in game mechanics to support, what i am calling, "planned multiplayer". ED is strictly, what i am calling, "incidental multiplayer" for the time being. we will have multiplayer sometime next year.

Do you mean even private group play is currently just working for coincidence? I'm currently in the founders system at the very start - Fanyard Ring.

Not an expert here but there is a number of things you can try:

From simpler to more complex tweaks we have:

- Try aswell checking that in your firewall (weather the Windows one or the Antivirus one) you have Elite: Dangerous fully "allowed" and enabled for outbound and inbound data.
- You mention you have upnp enabled but not sure if you set it at the router itself or at the game config files. Try also at the config file just in case: Access your AppConfig.xml which can be found in your game directory and open it in Notepad. In the 'Network' section, add the following just underneath 'DatestampLog': UpnpEnabled="1"
- Last but not least try port forwarding for Elite. It is a bit of a pain but once done properly it can be game changing, pun intended:

http://portforward.com/ is a useful third-party website that includes a lot of community guides to configure port forwarding on many models of routers.

1) Select an available UDP port, e.g. UDP/5100
2) Configure 'Port Forwarding' or 'Application access' on your router so that your chosen UDP port on your internet IP address is forwarded to your computer's IP address on the same UDP port
3) Locate your game installation, by default it installs to C:\Program Files (x86)\Frontier\EDLaunch\Products\, but it might be different on your computer
4) Edit AppConfig.xml in Notepad and make the following changes:
5) Change Port="0" to your chosen UDP port, e.g. Port="5100"
6) Change UpnpEnabled="1" to UpnpEnabled="0"
7) Add a new line before the "</Network>" entry that includes your own internet IP address and chosen port number, e.g.
<Self name="my computer" ip="1.2.3.4" port="5100" />

If you're not sure what your public internet IP address is, Google's search can help you. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=wh...+IP+address?
Many home ADSL internet connections will change their IP address from time to time, so if the multiplayer stops working after a time, you might need to double check that your IP address is still correct in AppConfig.xml

Also take a look here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=11361 although some aspects may be outdated.

Thanks Viajero, we tried this all yesteday in a couple of hours without success.
It's a pity this game is not supporting multiplayer as any other decent MMO.

Maybe we can try it out with someone who already had success in running multiplayer to narrow it down.

Have you forwarded your ports too?

Happening to me and my friends as well now. Worked well until yesterday. Now we can never get into the same instance...

I haven't played with my friend in a while (few patches ago) but it "worked" ... Just the game doesn't really have multiplayer. So once you do get on the same server and can meet up at a station or sun or nav beacon or whatever... It's still not going to feel like you're playing together.

1. No shared bounties
2. No shared missions
3. No slave FSD (and this is now apparently off the table - promise broken) which would keep you together in super cruise
4. You can't set destination to a friend (group member or someone on your friends list) so you can't get to them easily
5. Dropping out on low energy wakes was glitchy (a recent patch may have fixed this)
6. You don't always see the same NPCs when following an interdicted friend (same story as above)
7. There is currently no support for "wings"
8. Your friends aren't colored on radar
9. You can't transfer credits to your friends or give items

So, without these features (and I could certainly live without a few, like #9 for example) the game is truly a single player game only. It's just in a "shared world" ... So your friend and strangers alike should be able to affect your game play to some degree. They should be able to affect your game world. You should also be able to "see" them in some cases. But you truly are not playing "with" them at this point in time.

It's confusing because their marketing materials and web site go on to suggest otherwise. Their premiere event (if you caught a video of it) will show 3 guys fighting in some event together...But it's fabricated. They weren't in a wing. They simply dropped out at the same unidentified signal source. To be frank, I suspect (given how quick the guy's friends got there) they were sitting there simply out of range the entire time. It was staged. The friends coming in for support never super cruised in. They just sat there waiting. Complete gimmick. Not real game play in that regard. Real but not "real" - you should never expect to have an experience like that. You will also never see anyone on these forums describing an experience with their friends like that. There are no known recordings on YouTube or Twitch or otherwise like that. For now.

They are working on things and I hope they have legit multiplayer support soon. If you got into this game for multiplayer specifically, I'm sorry but you were lied to. This is not a multiplayer game today. It is unlikely it will be in time for launch. Though I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

So My friend pursuaded me to buy the game, but we can't actually do anything together.
Thats so lame :(
I was hoping to go hunting some bigger targets that each of us would be unable to kill on our own.

My wife and I played together last night.

It took 9 tries to even see each other in a private group game.

In the end, to even see one another we had to both land at the same station, log off, and relog at the same time. Finally she showed up.

Dropped cargo for her enough to get her into a very well equippped hauler, doing a couple rare runs today to up her to a Cobra and get her an intermediate scanner, then we are off to explore together.

But yea getting the two instances to be the same was a pita we do not look forward to repeating today.
